Default Looking for good 89+ front engine harness

Trying to find a reasonably priced (yea I know)..."alternator harness" for my 89GT. I think this is the source of my recent issues and even if not, it's pretty messed up from riding on the a/c belt back in the day.

(Carl sells a beautiful new replacement one for $700ish..and 928 Int'l has a used one for $300)...obviously trying to find one cheaper..but still needs to be in good shape...If I can't find something cheap...I'll be forced to create my own.

928 Int'l lists it as part number 928 607 002 17. I need a 89 up harness since the oil pressure sender is a three pole one.

This harness is the one that runs from the 14 pin connector across the front of the engine to the alt/starter/oil pressure sender..plus the a/c/tensioner etc are also in there...

Thanks in advance..

Buy a brand new '88 harness and change the oil pressure sender (the oil pressure sender is NLA, so when you need to replace it, you will be using am '88 sender anyway) and the temperature sender connector. That's how I've been solving the problem. Plus, the entire package will be cheaper than Carl's reproduction harness.

$300.00 for a good used harness, that is NLA, is like getting an early Christmas present, BTW.

Thanks for the tip Greg...so what's the third pole on the oil pressure sender used for?..

As a side note..I have a 91 EZK/LH harness i can trade for the alt. harness if that works. There is only one missing connector (temp II...had to use it for the megasquirt harness)..but otherwise in good shape

Just bumping this thread... It's getting closer to Sharktoberfest and I'll be forced to ride as a passenger...or fly..or even have to take the Audi worst case if I don't find one soon.....

Seems 928 Intl had one....that wasn't really there....so .... short of going the 88 harness route.... Does anyone have a 89 and up front engine harness (14pin, alt, starter, oil pressure sender one) they would be willing to part with ?.....

Thanks in advance...

I have an 88 harness in very good shape. Haven't really thought much about selling it, but saw your post, so let me know if you want to go the 88 route. Gregg's price seems fair :-)

That is the one that I didn't replace. I cut the other one at the firewall.
If I was you, and if you have the old one as a sample, I would buy a new 14 pin and build my own harness and route it the way I wanted

LOL...no notes to compare..unless you want to see what a well driven GT (311,XXX KM...or 193,XXXish miles) looks like...

Finally got the front harness out of there...she fought all the way...two brackets (one in the crossmember and one where the harness goes through the front cover)....caused lots of grief...

Did a quick once over and she's frayed pretty good in a couple spots other than where it got frayed on the A/C belt. I'm betting this is the cause of my issues..

One thing I did note (others have said this too)..as our cars age..the wires are getting older...and the casings on most of the wires are really not that good...cracking and becoming brittle..exposing wires....going to be seeing a lot problems in the future....

It'll get boxed up and sent to a friend who will see if he can "resurrect" it...

but barring that... bumpity bump.... Still looking for a good 89+ front harness if someone has one ..

Some pics of the harness...you can see where it was totally worn/frayed. This spot is near where it goes through the front cover (held by a bracket)..and drops down to the underside of the engine.

Also pictured is where it rubbed on the A/C belt..and you can see the "speaker wire" that was used to replace the broken blue wire (excitation circuit)..run outside the harness casing...

I'm guessing the combo of broken/frayed wires and the ability of our wonderful PacNW sunshine (that's rain to you folks) to get into the harness...is/was causing most of my issues...

Well...Chris Ford worked his magic and my old harness is nearly completely fixed. I've got an email in to Rog to get a couple of new connectors...but other than that, Chris made short work of all that mess of exposed copper and overheated sections. Chris..you Rock!!!!!

Once he gets those couple of connectors on there, he'll send it back and I'll get it back on the GT...might just make Sharktoberfest afterall

Here's some after pics..
