After multiple diagnosis of Crank Sensor Failure Saturday and then Sunday, I lent them a CPS sensor(that belonged to Bobby Huff's surprise anniversary present this weekend to his beautiful wife Melinda, an 88 S4, what a great gift, COOL). Then they had the dreaded stuck/fused old style CPS sensor...and last I heard wisely gave up and put it back on the trailer to hopefully be repaired at home?.
Funny, we have unfortunately had a few 928s that had to return home on a trailer from SITM over the years...but it was a first for someone to trailer a non-running one down to SITM. .
Overall to my knoweldge we had one of the most trouble free SITM events as far as actual breakdowns during the event. I think Harvey's TT breakage and Rod's PS leak were the only real issues I heard about?? Of course the TT break was a big deal. I heard Rod tightened some fittings to slow his PS leak for the trip home and made it OK.
BTW, does anyone know if Chris Lockhart's 928 got checked out over the weekend? I was so busy with the event and more so the parts sale (talk about chaos, it was crazy), I was out of the loop on all of the wrenching "fun" here Sunday.
Still a FANTASTIC WEEKEND, Thanks everyone!

I agree, I have known Matt for eons, pretty sure this is the first time I have met his brother. Seemed like a great guy, and from our brief conversations, a smart guy too.

I think Matt's CPS issues may have been related to the receiving connector crumbling to pieces. The last diagnosis I heard, however, was alarm-related, and they were trying to bypass EZK and other alarm-killed things with jumpers.
Did harvey get his TT (though Earl thought it was the differential giving out) sorted out? Or is it still on your lift?

It seemed to me the ratio of smiles to issues was on the side of everyone having a good time!
We had the dreaded, Shark that lived at Sea Level it's whole life and didn't like Mountain Air issue.
Actually, I'm still sorting it out but essentially, 10 miles before Beech Mountain, car would stumble at idle and try to cut off. Reset the computer by disconnecting ground (at least 4 times) and that would help some but not always. Had a few strange trips up/down the mountain.
We stumbled down and up the mountain and Sunday wisely chose to head to DR's place, thanks to some persuasion by Mike from VA. I pulled the Fuel Pump relay and one of the posts was cooked/corroded. Put in one of my spare 53s and she idled perfect. Felt some sporadic (every 20 to 50 miles) tugs until we were close to sea level and then everything was smooth.
I wish I replaced the Fuel Pump relay when I first got there but had to buy a paint can opener from the General Store to get it out and didn't really have the nerve to do the relay until I was at 928 SP, figured my kids could sort out old parts if it got real bad. I know I'm a coward
I'll be doing a CE cleaning/refresh and replacing all of the low cost relays and fuses. I will also be looking for any sources of vacuum leaks, changing the diff/tranny fluid and filter, probably getting rid of the POS internal fuel pump in favor of the prior year's strainer and replacing the fuel filter.
Next year, I won't wait until April to do all the things I need to do and won't have to do a TB/WP like I did this year.
Regardless, it's funny how road trips allow the car to tell you what it needs

First I have heard about Earl mentioning Diff...hmmm, Earl is rarely wrong.
Any way I was so busy trying to keep everything involving the SITM event and sale going smoothly and take care of everyone here. My only involvement in the wrenching was hearing reports and trying to find parts and/or tools everyone needed the best I could.
BTW, Harvey was a super nice guy and showed GREAT patience waiting for helpers that were going to help him take everything apart and remove the TT, etc..

Thanks to all who attended! What a great weekend.
I made it home late Sunday night/early Monday (1AM) with a giant smile on my face. Took yesterday to reconnect with the family and make sure they feel loved - oh and took a very long nap during the day.
Contacted the attorney in Robbinsville, NC about my minor incident which requires a mandatory court appearance. Also now have definitive proof that red cars are the fastest!
Great seeing my best friends and partying until the wee hours of the morning. Happy to see Hillbilly Greg getting some go-fast parts. Should be fun to see that development. Shawn has a fast car, but mine is faster (it's red).
Absolutely love my exhaust! It performed exactly the way I wanted it to. Quiet while cruising, LOUD when you want it to be!
Thanks to Hans and Katie for all kinds of things - I don't think I need to go into great detail.
Thanks to Brad M and Hillbilly Greg for helping me bleed the clutch... I think that helped a lot. It's been fine since the trip up the mountain.
Thanks to Brian and Mike for countless hours of fun while listening to the "finger."
Thanks to Tom for being an excellent negotiator and to Earl for slapping them down, 100, 200... Your box was sent yesterday.
Thanks to Booby and Melinda for being exactly who they are.
Thanks to Jim and Sue for putting up with our rowdiness.
Thanks to DR and Jeannie for a great event as always. I hope you guys cleared out a lot of old inventory.
I know I'm leaving out a ton of others, but thanks to all for making my vacation one of the best. I look forward to this event every year and I've never been disappointed.

Sounds like a reason to go to TN and have another party and drive.
I bet you and your Yankee friend Rudy have a date at the same place and time.
I also want to publicly thank Andrew and Hans for loaning me some cash to help be by some parts, thanks guys.

I just got back home in NJ a little while ago. This was my first SITM and it was very cool. I plan on going next year. It was good to meet everybody. I'll post some of the pictures I took after they're loaded onto the computer within the next couple days.

A very quick update on the "Sunday wrenching" questions:
Earl never thought it was the diff on Harvey's car.
Matt's car probably has a number of contributing issues. But, Jim, Earl and I scoped the CPS/RPM/impulse sender and thought that a) the waveform out of the sender was unexpected and b) didn't like the waveform it was sending to the LH.
Last: great time as always. Thanks D.R. and Jeannie (and Bobby and Chris and Hans and Katie and everyone else that helped prep) for a great event.

But hey, it's broken either way. And we all hope it's fixed soon, whatever it is!
