Default napa heat control valve

has anyone used auto store heat control valve with satisfactory results?connected mine to direct vacumme to keep it closed.the valve did operate so i'm assuming it's leakin through as i'm still getting heat.thanks

No problems after two years with Napa P/N 6601410


May consider the plastic version Napa P/N 6601230


Napa P/N 6601410 used to be this:

But is nowhere to be found at Napa (based on my limited research)
However, it is available from Carl: http://www.928motorsports.com/parts/heatervalve.php

I've used this one and is the one I prefer.

What the price of the plastic unit. I know the metal unit is about $16.99

Its from mid year (90's) Audi 5000

I used the plastic one. I think it was 13.00 or 14.00 . If I had it to do over, I would use the metal. The plastic one will also require that you sand down the seams from the mold. Easy to do, but for the price difference go with the metal.

Yeah i was considering the metal unit (the reason i know what it cost). For now,mine just began working again. I had mine wire tied all last summer. During the winter i cut the wire tie for heat. I just tried it a few days ago when it was warm and not raining. AC was COLD. I am sure its going to fail soon. Probably in a blazing hot day. LOL

I would suggest to use a new factory HCV and short hose....... that is all!

I tried that exact one (the one shown above that's being sold by 928 MS) and it lasted about 6 weeks.

Went back to the Porsche unit. Going on 3 years so far.

do those part numbers work for an 87 s4?napa doesnt cross reference with those.

The last one you pictured (Gold and Black). I was having heat all the time, everything seemed to move properly, so either the seal or the plate gave way.

I do have one of the all silver one's you posted waiting in the wings for when the Porsche valve dies.

Napa would not list these for the 928 because they were not intended for it.
I believe you need to reference the '92 Caravan, or just look up by the Napa P/N's I listed.

Jim the reason for what i posted the Porsche valve is a great break in the chain if you replace it on a regular basis it wont fail.
that said if there is a problem with the cooling system this would be where you would want it to fail as its at the top of the engine and thus you wont loose all of the coolant if the short hose or the valve itself fails.

That said if your valve is older than 5 YO it is wise to inspect it and replace it if its not functioning correctly
in this case less is more,
I wont install any other valve on any customers car

I have used the top metal one and a metal version of the 928MS part with good effect. I am not a fan of the Porsche part because they have been known to crack and dump all the coolant on some cars. On the 968 and 944S2 they are right by the RF tire so that can get interesting. On these cars they also get hotter as they are right by the exhaust header so this might be less of a problem on the 928.

The Porsche ones I have only seen fail internally (leaking hot water or leaking vacuum) but I have had zero problems with the alternative metal replacements thus far.

The Porsche part is cheap so it's not a big deal to replace it every 10-15 years. Mine failed at 15 years, 100k miles.

Concur on replacing the stub hose.
