Good morning all! Any chance you could help direct me towards finding a windshield for my 87 928s4? A truck kicked up a rock on the expressway and put a hand sized crack at the very base of the windshield, right by the d.s. I've read on forums that to find one might not be too difficult, but to get one with the factory antennae installed is near impossible. What are my chances, where do I go, what will I pay?

I got mine (Sigla with antenna, black border, tint) from Richard at http://prosourceglassintl.com/
Got a great price and had him drop ship it to the installer.

New or used? It will be a pleasure to view the world through clear glass. One of the po's scratched up my existing windshield with bad or no wiper blades.

The glass OEMs used in most Porsches is relatively soft, which is a double-edged sword. In one respect, it is more resistant to large cracks, but it also is very susceptible to little tiny pits from normal wear-and-tear. At dusk, it looks like the whole windshield in my 993 is covered with dust from all the pits... really frustrating. That windshield is 16 years old and 69k miles... think about a used one that is 25 years old with 100k+ miles.

Seems like some new windshields I've seen (not necessarily on 928s) have optical distortion and wavy sections ... does that vary by mfg or price? Is there any way to know when you buy a new one whether it will arrive in that condition?

That's a great price Dean. I just had mine done last week... looked for a couple weeks and couldn't find one locally for less than $340 (just glass). I ended up getting one out of Raleigh (and they had several... not real hard to find if you want to pay +/- $350), installed was $520. I know.... it still hurts.

If you get Pilkington as shown above, it should be fine. My local installer did Chinese glass one time - big wave right at eye level.

gears..thanks for your help. Called your glass guy and it will be freighted to my installer within the week. It's also a sigla, tinted with the antennae. Dealer quoted a price just over 1200 shekels. Yikes. I thank God every day I have you guys to fall back on. This shark would be stuck in my garage on four flats without all of your help. I'll give you a shout in a week or so when it's a done deal.

Richard Tankle is a great guy. I called him when I was looking at an 86.5. Straight shooter and nice.
