If you are along this routeish then drop me a PM with a phone number and availability dates between now and the end of August and I would love to see your cars, hear your stories and perhaps you could join me for a stretch?

Simon is off and RUNNING!!!!! The 82 is purring along nicely....with ICE cold AC!!!!!! He has a couple short stops today around town, then off to SFO to pick up his bro and the trip begins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Its been a long journey and I am glad to see Simon hanging in there and finally getting his epic 928 road trip rolling!!! Of course I forgot to take pics when he 1st got in the car and fired her up!!!
We had a great dinner last night....quite a multi-national crowd of myself (boring USA), Sean from the great white north (Canada) & Simon all way from London England!!!! I gotta admit his good nature and accent worked WONDERS at the DMV this morning.....he is SO good he even got the not very happy looking DMV lady to smile!!!

Three Wheelin'
Heading along I-90 and SR 2 today to Banks Lake but not in my 928 . Where are you picking up your 928? I could meet if you're near Seattle/Bellevue for a quick coffee. SR 2 should be beautiful. Stop by Leavenworth and the new Icicle brewery (right turn at maypole, first left...about 100 yards ahead). It's a new brewery/restaurant in Bavarian style (well all of Leavenworth is actually).
PM me or email sdamstrom at hotmail dot com if you need help.

Overheating issues
Having a few probs with overheating at the mo. Car is still in Stockton, Ca at the moment at Brians house. He is hoping to look at thermostat and perhaps coring the radiator. System holds pressure, both fans are coming on, car temp just keeps rising steadily in stop-go traffic until idiot lights come on. Cools down fairly rapidly but heats up again just as quickly. This is whether you are running the AC or not.
Any ideas appreciated for Brian to check over on Monday would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

Use compressed air to blow out all the dust, dirt, pebbles, and dead bugs from the radiator fins. Blow from back to front. Best if you can remove the radiator, blow it out real good, and also do the A/C condensor. This worked wonders for my 79 928. Really improved the air flow past the radiator; more air flow = better cooling.

We are moving!!
We have covered about 650 miles with a few wrong turns and are currently in Gold Beach OR. Great drive on 36 to 101 up to Redwood, Valley of the Giants. Car had been great, no issues with overheating now but here are a few posers for you all:
1. Brakes are vibrating a fair bit through the pedal and the steering wheel especially at speed and down hills - can't be warped rotors )just replaced) - could it be vacuum related or pads - master cylinder?
2. Washers dont work for windshield - have put in fluid but no sound from pump - electrics/failed pump?
3. I had to pull off the front spoiler - any potential issues other than unprotected radiator?
4. Couple of rough starts had to pump the gas and crank it a bunch to get it to start this AM - thoughts and concerns?
5. Shifting up seems a little bit late - adjustment needed?
All ideas welcome. If you are near Crater Lake or Florence, OR for the Dunes drop me a PM! Portland for the wkend too.

1. Its possible for the rotors to not be mounted perfectly flush against the hubs. Check is to pull the wheels, pry the brake pistons back a bit, and rotate each and look by eye for run-out / wobble of each of the discs. I've had this happen when in a hurry and not cleaning rust or debris from behind and mounting them askew, esp. when skipping the use of the little philips head mounting screws. Check wheel bearings feel / sound (front) at same time and look for particulary bad ball joints or something loose. They put lower steel joints onto this one for you, right, to replace the aluminum ones before this epic trip?
2. Window washer refresh is an unreasonably difficult job on your year, not a road repair. Two carbon steel inserts in the tank and fill pipe completely disintegrate and pollute the system and jam the pump. Tank is inside passenger front fender Pump access is tricky, from below, buried under the overflow coolant tank. With front right wheel off, you will see three little rubber **** poking thru the wheel well. That's the mounts for the pump. I'd mix some soap into a water bottle, buy a squeegee, and stop if needed to clean bugs
5. Shifting late? Bowden cable loosening might help it but like everything else, its complicated enough to do on your car if its your first time, as you have to I think pull air cleaner and contort your hand up under the spider to reach it on the throttle body, pry it off the ball and use tiny wrenches to loosen the jam nut and turn the coupler a turn or two, loosening the cable. Shouldn't be so bad to affect you once on the highway though. Is it? Leave it if you can. A NW rennlister could probably fix it for you in 15 minutes.
If you still have viscous fan, belt driven, and car runs cool except in traffic, then the fan can be removed and refilled with 7000 to 10000 cp silicon fluid using a syringe and basketball fill needle, but its not a road repair. (Doesn't matter that it looks like its spinning already -- this situation cannot be eyeballed.)
