Easy Carbon Fiber Wrap anything internal and external
#91
Here's a thought. If our trim pieces are so rare and people are acheiving the 'original' black look, why not just use a black vinyl wrap like the 3M carbon fiber???
Sorry, I'm still sticking to my choice for Di-Noc. I have an exhaust system to finish before I move on to wrapping.

Mongo,
Exactly. Our trim pieces are subject to fading and cracking from UV exposure and age. Assuming that a new piece is available, you will most likely have an issue in that the finish will not match that of the older original pieces. You can refinish all the pieces or cover them with a material such as these new vinyls. There is also the additional benefit in that you can repair cracks and minor surface imperfections before recovering the trim pieces. Newer Porsche models have optional trim packages that match the body color - this feature could also be replicated with the vinyl coverings. There is most likely a textured film that would mimic the factory appearance for anyone making custom stereo surrounds or trim pieces for a seemless integration into the OEM interior.

Sorry for even entering a thread with such great minds like yourself Frank.
Let me spell it out for you, many of us think it looks fake because it is fake.
It does not offend me at all, I think it is funny.
If it is ugly you can always have it done in leather, which was a factory option.
And BTW, I will post in any thread I damn well feel like.
I do agree that racism has no place in this forum, and I have no idea why you accuse me of it.

You don't seem like the sharpest tool in the shed so let me spell it out for you. It is beyond tasteless to use racial slurs to describe a particular modification. It also seems rather rude to tell others that something won't, or can't, possibly look good and therefore shouldn't be done to THEIR vehicles because YOU don't like it. It also seems rather dumb to contribute, and I use that term rather loosely, to a thread that is of no interest to you and in which you have absolutely zero product knowledge. Start a poll if you want 20 pages of people giving their opinions - yours are neither wanted nor needed here. This thread was originated to inform members of a new product that some may find useful. Your presence, and comments, only detract from the discussion at hand. If you would try to be slightly open minded, you might realize that there are currently over 500 colors/finishes available in the 3M Architectural film series that can be applied to the interior/exterior of our vehicles to enhance the appearance of our aging vehicles - you needn't limit yourself to carbon fiber since it so deeply offends you.

It is not generic - it is derogatory. The fact that you don't know that, or won't admit it, says everything about your education and character. I don't know you - and don't want to know you. Leave the internet tough guy routine to the teenagers - it is laughable.

Hey... I eat rice practically every day, but then I'm married to a Japanese woman.
The term "rice" is a racial slur to be sure, but one of such mild proportions, that I don't think of it as being racial. In my purview it generally refers to Asian-based import tuner cars or motorcycles. But what do I know... I'm just a cracker.

Keep it up and a few people will be taking a vacation - you know who I'm talking to.
Just to toss in my two cents - the point of Carbon Fiber is a stronger / lighter material to make things out of.
To wrap something just for the "look" is 100% fake. If you like the look, so be it. Just don't get your undies in a bunch when someone points out it's fake looking. Unless you re re-molding the piece out of carbon fiber, you are defeating the purpose.
As for the term "Rice" - I'm with Andrew Olson.
Context is everything
In the context of this thread, "RICE" is a common term used to describe any item attached to a car to achieve a "look" of performance that doesn't actually do anything.
Carbon fiber wrap is no different than putting NOS stickers on a car without nitrous.

I don't care either way. I get just as much from this forum without the need to be a member. It is a shame you couldn't show up earlier to keep this thread on track. It always amazes me why someone feels compelled to contribute to a thread that is of no interest to themselves - it merely lenghtens a thread and dilutes the information for those that have an actual need/interest. I wonder what purpose the carbon fiber leather serves in the M-series? Is it making the dash and center console lighter or stronger. For that matter, why does Paul Champagne offer this finish for his center console treatments- lighter? Stronger? I'm not sure what kind of performance advantage you seek from interior trim pieces other than marginal weight savings. In the context of this thread, it is all about appearance. Whether you choose carbon fiber, brushed aluminum, or canary yellow - it is all to the discretion of the end user. I apologize to Greg for my remark but stand by my opinion that "ricer" is a derogatory term and has no place in this forum - regardless of the context.
