Greg Brown Powered VW Bus!
I thought you folks might be interested in a little problem I am having.
While I love the Greg Brown stroker motor in my silver car, there is this voice, sounding very much like Ed “Big Daddy” Roth. It says the same thing, each time. “Man, that’s a GERMAN 396 cu. in. motor!” “You GOTTA stuff it in a VW!!!!”.
I went to Psychologists (tell me about it, sonny..), Psychiatrists (I’ve got drugs for that voice..), Swami’s (let the silence give you the answer..), Mystics (the answer’s in one of these books..), and finally, a Psychic. The Psychic’s words rang most true for me, despite the incense and weird music in the background: Big Daddy is channeling through youuuuu. If you do as he says, you will appease him, and he will leave you alone, …at least for a little while.
So, here I am.
I let Big Daddy guide me in my research. He showed me these:
The Baja Beast VW Bus
An old cheesy Sci-Fi movie, Moon Zero 2.
Moonscope
Space 1999: Alien
The Lost In Space "Chariot"
A 1958 with a V8.
A 1962 with a blown 355 and 7-inch chop:

It doesn’t stop there. He says I can do much better!
He’s got me calling Sand Rail chassis makers, several available in mid-engine layout. Sterling cars, with their new mid-engine chassis, customizable. Renegade Hybrids with all sorts of tranny adapters. Sand rail companies, again, for funky tires.
I am researching mount points for a 1st generation VW Bus' "brick" body.
Sometimes I see Bid Daddy also. He’s always got this mischievous grin…
I’ll keep you posted on the progress - this will be the build thread.
But right now, I’ve got to get back to the garage – Big Daddy knows I was telling you guys, so he is making me pull the motor, so's I won’t change my mind..!

There was a lot of Greg Brown DNA in hot rodded VW's long before the 928 ever existed, so this arranged marriage sounds like a good one. Better test for consanguinity first, tho...

I recently drove a real sleeper: a Volvo V70R 6 speed. It looks like grandma's volvo, but is a monster. Stupid fast, sounds like a nasa rocket on the boost, has Ohlins suspension and Brembo brakes. And you can turn off all the electronic nannies... You would leave most sports cars in the dust with it. It made me laugh on the highway.

Will it incorporate that uber-rare 6 speed 928 transaxle found in Mexico a few years back?

Whew, that was a lot of work, but Big Daddy lead the way, he placed the right wrench in hand every time, didn't miss a beat. Engine on stand. VW shop trip tomorrow - he says he's got the lead on a body.
The 6-speed. %$#@&!!, you had to mention it!
He picked my brain. Now, we're going to the US-Mexico tunnel (the one they haven't found), where that special weissach was buried after the Federalie chase. Big Daddy wants that 6-speed, and the badge with the shift pattern!
Big Daddy says close blood lines tend to be a naturally good thing in this case, as long as they remain era appropriate..
He also says laughing while on the road is the goal!

I believe the Sun has dragged the April 1 madness all the way 'round the globe by now, so it is safe to wish everyone a very happy 2011 April Fools Day!
Big Daddy had me drawing those crazy drawings, like he done when I was but a wide-eyed child. As soon as I get them off these garage walls, I'll scan them for yer feedback.
Now, back to our regularly scheduled programming...
