Special LA to Seattle trip with my new S4
Following up on Craig's post, I had a great trip up from LA with my new S4. Left Paso Robles and drove up through Big Sur to Carmel, then Red Bluff for the first night and Portland the second. Lunch with a buddy in Tacoma, then Seattle this afternoon. Lots of rain for its baptism - outside but not inside.
Car ran great; never had a 1000mi trip go so smoothly. Fun learning about the little things like how the cruise control works, the digital dash, etc. Checked the speedo with the GPS and maybe the needle is 1mph high but the digital readout seemed right on.
Didn't have any trouble getting in front of the truck wash once I adjusted my ankle angle.
Lots of good results from the PPI and really great to have the chance to absorb reams of great information, insight, and inspiration. Now that was SPECIAL.
So here I am, thinking about a few tweaks and planning on a few minor repairs; brackets for rear A/C lines, repair/replace a couple wheel well liners, a couple broken rear ball joint covers, etc.
I've been lurking on Rennlist for a few months now and it is one of the reasons I considered a 928. Hard to find the kind of support that this Board provides. Looking forward to meeting local 928ers and who knows, maybe Sharktoberfest!

3) Stock fuel pressure = 48 PSI, idle, no vacuum, 55 PSI fuel relay jumpered
Addendum
1) Smog for CA: In order to pass emissions with the Ott X pipe, Random Technology CATs, and DynoMax mufflers the following configuration is required.
a) The engine must be in good running condition, fuel injectors, O2 sensor, MAF, CATs, no vacuum leaks, stock fuel pressure = 48 PSI (vacuum line off RRFPR for setting), normal compression, clean spark plugs, new air filter.
b) The stock chips must be installed in the LH and EZ controllers
c) The air diverter valve is turned off by placing a plastic ball in the vacuum line but the air line must be connected to the X pipe in order to pass visual inspection
d) Verify: The AFR at 2000 RPM will measure 14.3:1 with the O2 sensor bypassed as measured with the O2 sensor removed and a Lambda probe installed. The engine must be hot during this test. IR temperatures will read 400F at the CAT inlet and 500F at the CAT outlet. This verifies that the system is working properly prior to the smog test.
e) The CARB certification for the Random Technology CATs must be in the glove box with the registration at all times.

Thanks all;
I think another wrenching party is in order with an encore by the ensemble, just need to assemble the parts. And beer.
Thomas, I'll PM you about this weekend. We may just have to wing it.
Sue, Jim
Let's figure out how to get the car and us in the same place at the same time for the p(ost)pi.
Bill.

If Jim and Sue get the GTS done...and yours is ready to roll.....there's a local PCA show and shine at the XXX in Issaquah on May 1st..... Might be a good time to bring out the 928ers in force ...
congrats on a great 928 ...I'd love to know how much power a GT cammed AT puts down...

Bill,
Love the color! One of the ONLY other S4's I have seen in Dunkleblau/Linen! That is what my first S4 is too! Mine is an '88 and ALL the carpets in mine are Linen too (not a great idea I might add!) where yours look dark blue. Are your dash and carpets dark blue or black? Clearly our cars are not exactly alike, but pretty close. I think I have seen one '87 and one '86 in our color too (though I am sure there are more) so it is a pretty rare color actually!
Love the wheels, they look GREAT! I love a nice 5 spoke wheel! The wing might be a bit much for me, but I could probably get used to it! Looks and sounds like you got a great car!! Congrats!
