Well..ya..but MORE...more than what? More than 500FtLbs of torque on a blower? More than hitting a hard bump at 70mph?

The 928 only has as many spot welds as Lotus would use on a good day??

Jacking up by a corner aint never hurt nothing that ive ever heard of...on any car. (Except old Lotus with rotted plywood)

Jeff,

I don't plan on cornering with 2 wheels off the ground. But I do hear what you are saying, they are tough.

Its not about being tough..its just jacking is a lot less stress on the chassis than just driving it hard.

just be sure to have the handle down close to the ground when you lower the jack or the front spoiler is going to take a lick...

Always!, my handle will drop with pressure as the jack lowers.

Just for facts I have jacked up the rear driver side and gone to front driver side and put my hand on fender with about 10lbs of pressure and the passenger rear lifts off the ground. I know they are a block of steel. I still am not comfortable jacking as high I like on the factory spots. I do need the lift bars.

Default jack points

Now I am freaked out!
Like Merlin I use the two front areas under the tow hooks.
My jack just barely fits. Once up I use jack stands under each factory point in front, THEN I put roll the jack under the diff
and place stands under the factory points
Am I nuts to do this way?

We are all nuts.

You don't really lift on the differential, do you?

to lift the rear DO NOT jack up the transmission
BUT instead jack up on the lower crossmember use a block of wood between the jack and the cross member

This is a good thread!
I seriously despise using the Porsche jacking method, though have been using for years.

Recently for a quickie lift that doesn't require serious height, I lift on each front corner and place a ramp (reversed, pointed forward), under each front wheel. Then raise the back, the normal method.

I really need to pony up for some liftbars.

I like some of the alternate lifting methods posted here, but you guys either have a low-pro jack or are raising the corners (to unsetlle it), then coming in from the front?

I have a 30 year old 2.5 ton Snap on floor jack. Very low profile for exotic cars, goes under the front with 2by4 block.

I know there is a bit in the WSM about the windshield cracking if the bar is loosened,
however I have never seen one crack and i usually remove it prior to jacking.
On those jobs in the engine bay where the cross brace is in the way, the WSM specifically says to remove the cross brace before lifting the car. I nver remove the brace once the wheels are up. It comes off first (or not at all, depending on the job). I think the windshield cracking situations result from removing the brace once the car is up.
