I like it....the classic gray-midnight blue is very nice.....a quick thrust bearing check can add some piece of mind to potential buyers..... but the price is very good given a nice condition, documented GTS with low mileage......
The car is in Santa Rosa. It really is a very nice example of a GTS. Has anyone run the VIN number to determine if it is an early 94? Besides the older wheels would it not also have the 93 GTS rods?

At this point the rods don’t really matter, the mileage and price are right. Cleaned up (engine bay) with some catch up maintenance it should get around 50K.

Dan,
It just needs a set of longhorns mounted on the hood.

Beautiful car. If I didn't already have one, this would be the GTS to buy.

I'm unaware of any early/late distinction within the 1994 model year, unlike that which occurred in the North American "1993" run. The only distinction in 1994 to my knowledge is the transition from Cup I to Cup II wheels. Chuck's registry wheel guide says that transition occurred starting with VIN 0079. As this car is 0076, it appears to be one of the last equipped with Cup I's (and RDK).

I thought there were some internal engine differences. Perhaps my memory is failing me but I seem to recall some mention of stronger rods being put into the 94 95 GTS engine?

I think that is what Jarrod is referring to above. I have on another computer the engine #'s for the change in the rods in '93. I'll try to post that. It would appear this car has 2Rs.

Thanks Steve. Does 2R rods equal better?

My bad, Dan. I was thinking all the '94s had the 2R rods. Looks like a prospective 1994 GTS buyer might want to look at the engine for:

https://rennlist.com/forums/4446659-post67.html

Note: 28.49 engine code is for 5 spds, 28.50 is for automatics

According to PET, it appears 1994 28.50's started with engine number 81R 50501. IF the changeover occurred at 50597, it would appear that a few of the cars early in the run MAY have had the 1R rods.

Didn't they put the cabin filter in on mid '94's? I forget.

Sean, that is correct. Pollen filter on the '94/'95 cars.

I have the pollen filter on the 94. Great price on that GTS. Someone should step up and snag it. T

At least first 1/3 of '94 MY engines still used 1R rods. Engine number is the key. Its possible and even likely that some 1R rod engines went into cars after first car already got 2R rods. This means there isn't clear VIN cut where one can expect change.

718 R program VIN change for 1993 models for USA/Canada only

This means '94 MY US model VIN's 0061 to 0079 were actually made before '94 MY production started. They are in every way '93 MY cars except VIN number makes them look like '94. This also means all parts used to make them are same as '93 MY and thus wheels are Cup I with RDK instead of Cup II, no pollen filter and no dynamic kickdown for 15 automatic cars made.

Thanks as usual for the detailed insight. The above also explains why, when I plugged the VIN in PET, it shows it as a 1993 - even though the VIN says 1994.

For the average buyer, I suspect all of this is moot. If I had the cash and desire for an automatic, I'd be sending an email to the seller. Cars of this quality don't pop up every day...
