Default adding HP to a stock 4.7 euro w/300hp

There have been alot of threads recently talking about adding HP to the 5.0L motor but I have never seen a thread on adding HP to the early 300HP 4.7L motors. Are chips available? I understand I can add either a turbo charger or super charger and many kits are available but to be honest 3 or 4 grand is alot of cash to put into this motor. Although I have not ruled that option out I am hoping that chips or some kind of super tuning is available. Thanks for your help. toofer

1. Make sure everything is 100%. WOT switch works, O2 sensor, throttle plate opening all the way, good plugs / wires / rotor, no vacuum leaks etc...

2. Exhaust - the cast iron manifolds lave room for improvement. Cheapest upgrade is the stainless units from the US 85/86.
Next step is MSDS headers with a custom exhaust.
The ultimate would be a complete header / exhaust system from Precision Motorwerks (Greg Brown)

As for tuning, the 84-85 LH / EZK brains are Shark Tunable and I would assume there is power left on the table with the EuroS unit just like the 85/86 32V engines.
With the above exhaust upgrades it would be a good idea to have an experienced tuner go through the engine.

I would love to see Mike Simard's ITB system on a stock EuroS with a good exhaust.

The 300hp S cars are K Jetronic (CIS) injection, so no chips / mapping / tuning possibilities like the 32v cars. They are pretty rapid when working as per factory, so your first step is check that everything works to a factory standard.

Personally, I would then do a suspension refresh, then exhaust.

True, one must understand that difference, 80-83 300 HP versus 84-86 310 HP.
Both Euro S, different engine management systems.

I'd do head gaskets and check 2/6 before trying to boost output from a 25 to 30+ year old car, though.

Hacker, Thanks for the info, I live in Florida where there are no emission test so the first thing I did was put 2 1/2" duel exhaust w/xpipe and flowmaster 44s, they are louder then I was wanting but their on there now. No converter. Took it to a local speed shop and had them adjust fuel to air mix, although where I set it by ear wasn't off much. I was hoping to find someone that makes chips for this engine but I've had it six months and have struck out so far. I'm not complaining about the power it has now . Just want to know if more can be bought short of a supercharger. Thanks for your help.

Unless you build a SC kit yourself or get a used one, 3-4 grand will not cut it.

Has anyone had any fuel pressure gauges on it ? and what is the ignition timing advance ?? The Euro likes more than the USA cars. Hop ups are headers, cams but no huge difference in performance.

How ambitious are you and how much money do you have?

#1 is to get it all working correctly.

Then tune the fuel injection a bit rich, like 13:1 A/F ratio maximum, add 3 degrees spark advance and also those better exhaust manifolds. You'll pick up 25 to 30 horsepower. You may be up 50 from where you are now with an out-of-tune engine.

Default Performance gains

1. Headers
2. X pipe
3. Custom exhaust post x pipe
4. Mechanical Fan delete
5. Custom Cold Air Intake - Some may argue its not worth it but I believe it is
6. Chip if its 84-86

All of the above has been done to my track shark with the exception of the chip. ( Although I do have a chip for it)

As to sharktuning, that is only for 85 and 86 LH euro's and NOT 84 LH euro. something about a software upgrade along with many other upgrades for 1985 (per John Speake)
