Front Windshield Wiper Delete Poll
Here's the challenge. To vote and comment on this poll, please refrain from other members comments, +1 and that sort of thing. Use only your own judgment when voting and commenting please. We have deleted just about everything that could be deleted for a clean, shaved, look. This 928 will almost never see rain or other inclement weather. The front w/wipers can be stored in the rear hatch area and be reinstalled in about 30 seconds if need be, re: annual inspection, if a cop is breaking your stones, etc. We have run motorcycles that have windshields and no wipers in the rain and other inclement for the last 30 year without a hitch. Another option, Rain-X can be applied to the front glass in place of the w/wipers, and that product works great. This Rain-X product also helps with that nasty bug problem, where w/shield wipers just smear the bug even worse. We would then cover the 2 stems with a small, tasteful, color matching cap of some sort that would go pretty much undetected. The caps can be applied with a little dab of Dum-Dum or ? It's really not a true delete, just take the caps off, and put the wiper arms back on. Jerry Feather, put a cap on this ! T

I consider windshield wipers an important safety feature. As such, I would leave the wipers and washer nozzles on, and use the new Bosch style wiper blades.
On a motorcycle, you can usually look over the windshield, or past it to the side. You can't do that in a car when something splashes on your windshield.

I lived through 11 years of Texas thunderstorms. There isn't enough Rain X in the world that would convince me that you can live on the Gulf coast without wipers. I've seen plenty of wiper delete R-gruppe 911's out here (no safety inspections in California) and most have these big black rubber nipples covering the wiper shafts that look far worse than having the wipers in the first place. Even if you paint them body color they're going to look stupid. Just stick some Bosch icons on it and call it done.
What about dew/condensation when it's 95 with 80% humidity and your A/C is condensing water on the outside of the windshield? It gets a mite toasty in Corpus....

Obviously you don't ride cruising type motorcycles. Most touring type motorcycles re: H.D. Road Glide, Electra Glide, Street Glide, Road King windshields are normally at or above eyeline. BMW and Honda Wings have electronically adjustable height windshields. When at speed, you want to be below the top of the windshield in inclement weather, not looking around or above-you'll get peppered with rain, etc. No windshiled wipers on any of these motorcycles. Also, please don't forget, if it rains ultra hard, many motorcyclists just park it under a bridge overpass, etc until the rain tapers off. Kinda nice to take a break. Part of the ride. Also, who said anything about big black rubber nipples? I said small, color matching caps that will be harldy noticeable. This is a poll, please vote ! T

I don't ride any motorcycles. Too dangerous- I spent too much time in the ER in Houston, and orthopedic trauma grosses me out. I know, I'm a wuss, missing out, whatever. The good news is that the wife says I can have one once I've been diagnosed with cancer.
Look, Tony, pulling the wipers is a trivial thing and can be reversed in 30 seconds, as you say. It's so trivial that on the heels of your 39-0 shutout it begs the question of why you're even asking. So just pull them and see how you like it. It's still a vaguely free country. And hurry up and finish that car, I can't wait to see it in one piece- It's going to be great no matter what you decide about these little details.
EDIT: Forgot to vote, now voted.

+1 based only on your explanation.. WTF did come to mind. I wouldn't ever do it. I've driven a motorcycle in the rain when it was not suppose to rain, and let me tell ya using my hand on a faceshield at times as a wiper really sucked! It's your car, so.....

Tony,
I would keep them. Sometimes you get a few bugs, bird poops, someone else's windshield fluid, road oil, and so on. I don't think wiperless would make the car look better or worse.

I voted for both. For a restomod car show, I would remove them. For driving around town and other places, leave them on. I can't ever remember thinking while looking at a car in motion "that car would really look better without those wipers." I would leave them on, they are not that noticeable to others.

I don't think the wipers detract from the overall look, as they're satin black, and they blend in to the point of obscurity anyway. I would also leave them on for safety ... big splash from another car, thunderstorm, etc etc. So my vote is leave them on .... however ... as they can be removed easily and capped, you can put them on and then see what you think and/or get opinions later when you can post pics of the two 'looks'.

Which is why in the hard rain..we park under overpasses.

I'm not going to dignify it with a vote. Suffice it to say that removing an important safety feature in order to gain a highly dubious improvement in looks is beyond daft.
Hey, don't those brake calipers really clutter up the hub area?

I voted no, but if you rain-x the glass and only take it out on clear days, I think you'd be okay - but if you got into an accident... well I wouldn't insure you. Too much of a liability. Would it even pass inspection in California?

I've been doing Rain-X for years, in a place where it seldom rains and I seldom drive when it does. A couple summers ago the trip to Texas for OCIC was peppered (and more) with rain on the way. Most of the days in Texas had rain at some point. Rain-X was fine, and did what I expected, but still no substitute fo wipers when on the DFW freeways with rain plus tire spray covering the windscreen.
I guess the real question is about carrying the wipers and stuff in the car all the time, and just putting them on when rain threatens. No worries with that. It just seems like a heap of hassle.
----
You need a cool way to have the wipers hidden when not in use. Then make a pantograph arm and just one wiper that goes edge-to-edge, yet folds out of the way when not in use. Two motors. First the regular wiper motor to move the arm. Second, similar to the headlight motor setup, to rotate the second pantograph arm pivot down so the wiper parks horizontally.
