I use Marvel Mystery Oil in mine when the lifters start to stick.

I was going to try the ATF solution but chickened out. How long do you run the car for (mileage interval) prior to changing out the oil with that quart of ATF in it?

the frequency is every other revolution? contrary to another poster, the frequency is not that fast, if its a rod knock, its every revolution, if its a stuck lifter every other revolution. big diff. you should rev it up on the video. lots can be heard with increasing RPM. go under the car and see if you can hear it down low by the pan. I had a real loud stuck lifter when my car was transported to Road america. i guess all the bouncing around , drained the lifters. took about 30mins to recover, but it sounded REALLY scary bad and then it went away.

that was exactly what mine sounded like at RA. yep, lifter, and let it run, and it will go away when it pumps up.

Remember this? It was lifters. Cure was to let it run!

I'd say 50 to 100 miles and I wouldn't do any high revs - keep below 4k.

Actually very little oil sprays out. If you rev it, it will throw some off the cams, but otherwise it can be done w/o creating a big mess. We did this to Dennis Kao's motor once when we were trying to diagnose wierd oil pressure behavior.

Hopefully that lifter will get unstuck and pump up again.

I am updating the threads I opened in the first week of ownership of the car. The noise is no longer audible during normal driving or idle. I do not believe I have heard it since the first time I drove it over 1 mile.

I have not changed the oil, but I will this weekend. I will also note here that I put half a can of seafoam into the oil pan before what has amounted to about 150 miles of driving so far.

Thanks for everyone's assistance.

Default Rislone or Marvel oil should give you results in just a few minutes

I've always used "Rislone" with great results in my MB diesel whenever I had a loud or stuck lifter.

Good luck
