5 Speed conversion progress
If I read this write you did not need to install the factory firewall plate? That you were able to use a floor mount set up? I have wanted to do this but not bad enough to remove my engine to install the factory plate.

you do not have to remove the engine, to install the mount for the clutch master cylinder, the mount for the pedals is in every car.
Here is an example of how to put in the clutch master. Less than 8 hours start to finish.

This was one of the easiest jobs I have done on the 928. After the clutch master the rest is a bolt up operation.

When I did my conversion to the 1986.5 track car it was the details that I really spent a lot of time on. I replaced all the little plastic bushings in the pedal assembly, adjusted the clutch pedal for ease of operation and generally took my time double and triple checking everything along the way. Did have a bit of a problem figuring out the correct mounting of the clutch slave cylinder hard line.
All this paid off with a flawless and trouble free 5 speed conversion which was then raced at the 2007 48 Hours of Sebring races by none other than Mark Anderson. No problems with the conversion through the race. The engine though did not fare all that well.
Greg, good luck with this. For a Pro, it will be a fun time!
By the way, what year 5 speed box are you putting in?
Cheers,

This is the trans that was in Sterlings car.
I know it is going to kill the mileage for sure, not that it is very good now.

There are a couple of other S4's around here that are very close in performance out on the high way, Paul 88 and Splikes 87.
It is going to be interesting to see what changes the manual VS auto and gear change does while we are out playing.
Before the cars were pretty even.

One of the best combo's is in Jim Page's S4 track car. S4 transmission with a 2.75 R&P from a 79 installed with an early LSD.

I have been looking at Mike Simards approach to doing squirters, sure can not hurt.
Why is this a good combo (without going into detail about optimizing hp at speeds YOU use the car in)?
that modification is basically an entire shift down of all the gears, plus a little bit more. spacing is the same, so where is the advantage? (besides hill climbing with a resultant, 40mph 1st gear (vs the stock 50mph 1st gear)
)
