If I read this write you did not need to install the factory firewall plate? That you were able to use a floor mount set up? I have wanted to do this but not bad enough to remove my engine to install the factory plate.

Cliff
you do not have to remove the engine, to install the mount for the clutch master cylinder, the mount for the pedals is in every car.

Here is an example of how to put in the clutch master. Less than 8 hours start to finish.

This was one of the easiest jobs I have done on the 928. After the clutch master the rest is a bolt up operation.

Agreed.

When I did my conversion to the 1986.5 track car it was the details that I really spent a lot of time on. I replaced all the little plastic bushings in the pedal assembly, adjusted the clutch pedal for ease of operation and generally took my time double and triple checking everything along the way. Did have a bit of a problem figuring out the correct mounting of the clutch slave cylinder hard line.

All this paid off with a flawless and trouble free 5 speed conversion which was then raced at the 2007 48 Hours of Sebring races by none other than Mark Anderson. No problems with the conversion through the race. The engine though did not fare all that well.

Greg, good luck with this. For a Pro, it will be a fun time!

By the way, what year 5 speed box are you putting in?

Cheers,

Are you sure you want to use a 2.73 if you are going to supercharge in the near future? IMO that will leave you with a 4-speed because of the useless 1st gear.

You use what you have, but I plan to be on the look out for a latter trans with a 2.20 and LSD, I also should be able to fit much larger tires in the back, we will see.
With the 295's traction will be a issue for sure.

The G28/10 you have there is pretty rare. I am sure someone would want to trade it for their G28/11 or 13 if they had a stock 928. Well, everyone except Kibort, hope he doesn't see this

I really think I want a spare trans, but you are right, it may be too much gear with a blower.
This is the trans that was in Sterlings car.
I know it is going to kill the mileage for sure, not that it is very good now.

There are a couple of other S4's around here that are very close in performance out on the high way, Paul 88 and Splikes 87.
It is going to be interesting to see what changes the manual VS auto and gear change does while we are out playing.
Before the cars were pretty even.

If the trans in my 79 wasn't already drilled / tapped with squirters I would be all over trying to talk Greg out of that transmission.

One of the best combo's is in Jim Page's S4 track car. S4 transmission with a 2.75 R&P from a 79 installed with an early LSD.

I have been looking at Mike Simards approach to doing squirters, sure can not hurt.

If I get ambitious and yank the trans out of my 79 for a shifter upgrade, I'll take some good photos.

Somewhere I have pics of Jim's setup too.

Why is this a good combo (without going into detail about optimizing hp at speeds YOU use the car in)?

that modification is basically an entire shift down of all the gears, plus a little bit more. spacing is the same, so where is the advantage? (besides hill climbing with a resultant, 40mph 1st gear (vs the stock 50mph 1st gear) )
