Sideways jolt when hitting the Go-pedel

You may just need to adjust the wheel bearing nut. Both my front bearings were loose on my car and once the adjustment was made, no more play. Not sure how/if the rear bearing can be adjusted but worth looking at if it saves you from having to buy a bearing.

the rear bearings are not adjustable they are fixed , when the axle nut is torqued to 320 ft/lbs

Well i am a F'n moron. go to the junk yard, yank both lower control arms (for later) and both hub assembles, get home, get ready to clean and replace...... (multi-able expletives...) turns out to be a stripped lower control arm/hub nut.... replaced the one little nut, torque.... done. so when i checked and torqued last, the nut was still crap. so it went loose again.... sigh......

The good news is that you found it. Better news is that it didn't strand you or worse.

not the axle nut, but the double ended "pin" that connects the control arm, hub, and shock (think cone washers). one end was stripped. atleast i go a new pin from the junk yard, cleaned it up, torqued to spec. all good :-)

Man, that guy way back on post #4 almost knew what he was talking about !
(Wally P. give me the same advice when I had the same problem many moons ago).
It is weird to feel the chassis rotate on the suspension like that. Mechanically, I don't understand why the loose nut would cause this kind of action, it's pretty wild. (Please don't try to explain, I'm enjoying the bliss of my mechanical ignorance on this particular point).
