How to tell if a 89 928 is a S4 or a GT?

639 doesn't always make the code sticker. But a real 89GT will have M28/47 85K XXXXX on the engine stamp pad under the upper radiator hose, and G28.55 XXXXX stamped on the rearmost bottom rib on the tranny case. This is the absolute minimum due dilgence on ID'ing a GT.

I must say I am disappointed with the 1st two pics....this clearly isn't an engine up to Dr Rob standards.... WAY TOO MUCH DIRT.....

Yeah, those pics were from 2006, my GT was kind of a cosmetic rescue job.
Lots of elbow grease later- are these better?

The best way to stop all the chatter on the Fix/Part discussion is to list a price you would sell the whole car for as is. If your end goal is a good S4 engine, I bet someone would be happy to make that a part of a transaction.
