How to tell if a 89 928 is a S4 or a GT?

If you have the VIN, or its last 4 digits, its pretty easy to look up the option codes and engine/gearbox type online, to determine whether its a GT.

If it has a 2.20 rear end then I'm confused. An '89 5-speed should have a 2.64 rear end in a G28.12 box, while an '89GT is a 2.73 in a G28.55 box.
Wheels, steering wheels, shocks, etc, none of that means a thing RE: whether it's a GT or not. Lots of things change on cars over 20 years.
If you can do so, post a pic of the options sticker from the rear hatch area, the tranny, and the engine stamp pad.
Brad, they didn't make Club Sports with an automatic gearbox.

If you have the full VIN, you can look it up in PET7 or directly on the lexcom site per this post:
https://rennlist.com/forums/7860968-post13.html
However searching by partial VIN can't be done online that I know of (I have access to a database I can query).

Thats not absolute truth as IIRR two US model 5sp S4 were made during GT production. First US GT was VIN 1096. In ROW markets both 5sp S4 and GT were done side by side and there are something like 50-100 5sp which were done at same time as 289 ROW '89 GT.
