OK...this is like seeing a contortionist in a position that is "impossible". This color wouldn't happen to be called "mirror black"? This car looks like the liquid mercury Terminator dude. Otherworldly. The only thing that would be similarly striking and unusual to the eye would be if you obtained a paint called "perfect black body object" (absorbs all light...i.e. a black hole....but that would suck because people really would constantly be trying to touch it, lol.). No I can't stop looking at it. Is the effect the same in person, or greater in photos?
The camera exaggerates the effect somewhat, depending on where the light source is, but the black is a very deep black, kind of like the black hole effect you mentioned, and the clear coat is, as the painter put it after spraying it, "like liquid glass". In person, the reflections and effects are still there very slightly subdued, and in the sunlight the blue and silver pearl really shines through. The paint shop did a good job getting the surfaces flat which accentuates the mirror images. HoK calls it Jet Black and it is the deepest and wettest looking black pigment I have ever seen in a base color. I went to a bunch of hot rod gatherings looking at black paints, and the HoK painted cars stood out every time. I keep going out to the garage just to look at it myself many times

Some minor progress today, assembled the shocks and springs, and will start the installation on the car tonight once it cools down. I had the local machine shop remove a few mm's from the rear lower spring adjusters to allow the Hypercoil springs to fit correctly on them. Thought that would be a better way to go than to remove material from the springs themselves.

Yes Carl, you did a great job on picking the details of this paint. The question is for what I would like to do some day and BC asks, does/can HoK take an existing color from a car manufacturer and then produce that along with the liquid glass clear coat?

I am sure HoK can (and your painter), just like any other paint manufacturer, match the paint that you want. And that Jaguar paint by the way, looks really sweet. Very elegant, and would look perfect on the 928 shape I think.
The clear coat that I used on my project is the House of Kolor "Show Klear" (that's how they spell it...) clear coat which has a high solids content and high UV protection. Just as a disclaimer, it is by no means a magical potion of glass in liquid form, but that is how it was described by the paint shop, as they were very impressed how it flowed out when sprayed.

You will see different color shapes for basically every shade of paint you can imagine. By clicking on the shape of interest it will give you the formula for that paint. If you give them the Jaguar factory paint code, they should be able to match it for you. As you can see, HoK has a plethora of flakes, pearls and chameleon additives that can turn a regular paint job into something spectacular. Perhaps you want more than one color of pearl in there, or a flake and pearl mix? Whatever you want to make it personalized or different while from a distance making it look factory.
I do want to point out that BASF and GLASURIT also have very good high end paints, but they are MUCH more expensive, and I can personally not see any difference in them when compared to the HoK products I have on my car. In fact, to me, the black pigment was "blacker and wetter" than what I saw from other manufacturers which is why I went with it. As far as getting any paint job to look good, the preparation is most important part. It takes a lot of block sanding to get the surfaces flat, without distortion, in order to get the mirror like finish. So I would say 80-90% of your paint job will be body prep and the relatively minor part will be the actual paint, both in time and in money.
I hope that answers what you were asking? I sure would love to see a 928 in that color, it would really accentuate the flowing lines.

Carl, is there not enough space inside the hypercoils to include the black plastic dust covers which go over the bump stops and nylon discs?

I could not get mine to fit without binding on the spring. I don't know if there are different diameter dust covers available but mine would not fit. I remember my Devek level 1 setup (Koni/Hypercoil) did not have the dust covers fitted either. Granted, my dust covers were fairly worn, a little warped and cracked so perhaps new ones would fit?
