Default Audi auto dimming mirror mounted

After curing for 24 hours, the mirror has been installed. Quick and dirty picture with lots of wire spaghetti hanging around. Wiring in the front roof area include dome light wiring, make-up mirror power and radar detector power.

Cheers!

Carl,

That mirror is looking good! I agree, it is just another area where the 928 needs updating. I have been driving our 1985 model and it feels ancient compared to cars that are less than 10 years old. I was driving this really treacherous stretch of mountain road tonight in the rain, not having ABS is quite a handicap and I will be great full when I get my new ABS hooked up on the main car.

I also looked into the Alpine ILX-007 but I think I will buy the ILX-700 as you can hook up the cars parking sensors and air cond and info system via the Can-Bus on that model. The only difference being the firmware. Obviously that will require some smart thinking and wiring to get that to happen. Can-Bus is the only way to go. I want things like, the passenger mirror turns down when reversing automatically. I want parking sensors and a rear view camera and also I want a forward view camera to record incidents that happen on the road.

I certainly want some traction and launch control. You can't get near a modern car on launch without it. Especially on not perfect surfaces. So many little things to fix also! It is one big job.

Take a look at the Parrot RNB6, built-in OBDI input, interfaces with all kinds of systems, CANBUS, even AC in modern cars. It is supposed to be released this year, not sure on price yet. http://www.digitaltrends.com/cars/pa...otainment-ces/
Here is a better link: http://blog.parrot.com/2015/01/05/ce...inment-system/

EDIT: The ILX-700 seems to show up on European websites only. I can't see it on the U.S market. Is it a Euro-only model?

Cheers!
Carl

The 2005 Passats have a "Home Link" sunvisor on the driver side with 3 buttons to program 3 garage door openers. Could be a cool update for your 928.

Agree with you Ake,

I like my cars to be cars not garage door openers.

Carl thanks for the tip, I will check it out, the ILX-700 is the same unit but with different firmware. As such it has some extra features.

I would have properly linked that but this iPad keeps crashing when I do, my apologies.

Who said I was a racing driver

Trust me the mountain pass road is a nightmare in the conditions it was last night. My wife said when I joined them for dinner, "what the hell made you go that way"? Err, the navigator on my iPhone.

I think what may have made the brakes lock was debris falling off the trees and getting under the tyre. It was extremely dark as the rain and the tall trees stop any moonlight. Add the rain and mist and then a road with minimal safety barriers with a drop off the edge off a hundred or so metres and at that point your are wishing for every bit of help you can get. For whatever reason that car just feels real old. I don't recall my car in the same light and my car felt more predictable too. It might be the different tyres and wheel alignment?

Carl, with the link I offered there is international shipping, I like the Alpine, one I think it looks excellent and Alpine were used in the 928 from the factory.

Greg, my oldest car a 1985 model do has ABS, find it odd your car does not.
It must be the tyres and you driving too fast and breaking too hard which made the wheels to lock. Older cars before 1987 have different suspension and brakes but it should not make much of a difference. I hate driving my cars when the road is wet, it means I have to wash the car. Drive carefully.

Carl, I can´t understand why I have missed this long thread by you. I have glanced it through, viewed all the pictures but not read everything. It is amazing what you are doing, it must be your Swedish mentality and stubbornness which keeps you going. A couple of questions:

When I was in Florida people told me never to drive a dark colored car, the hot burning Florida sun will heat up the car inside to an unbearable level. We all know this is a problem even in temperated areas like where I live depending on the large flat windows of the 928, especially the rear hatch window. My wife´s red car has a small vertikal rear hatch window like on the Jaguar XJS and one can feel a difference. What do you think?

How come you have deleted the original engine for a Corvette engine? I can see it is a larger more powerful engine but the stock engine do has plenty of potential for extended power. Is it because you want the six-speed Corvette transmission?
