Do you know the MER Racing#80? You got it backward. Grand am is E0, but E0 doesnt have to be Grand Am..
#80 MER racing Rx8 is listed at "Grand Am" as what class it was built too or has run in or where it comes from.
Your car is stock, it will run a min of 5mph slower through turn 8 than any car of similar set up and weigth on DOTs or slicks. many of the cars in the 25hour were on slicks.
I have motec output for my speed, based on cars I run with around turn 8. you saw "Turtle" full race , slicks set up posting a motec captured 105mph. Now, you think you could run 115mph with street tires through turn 8apex, with a 1000lb heavier car, without a race suspension set up? I love you brother, but you are smokin something!
why dont you do a quick calculation of the Gs developed with that kind of raduis turn at 100mph, and see what it jumps to at 115mph. I know you will find a Daytona Prototype value number. remember, street tires are in the 1g range, while slicks and DOT R can be near 1.5g

Dude...E0 WERC class is NOT a grand am race car?
WTF?
#80, MER racing, RX8...VERY close to stock...where is this grand am car??
And yes, bypass times...it does make a difference..but not for handing over a Franklin in T8, and not getting back change.
Maybe its the oil I use:

blah, blah, blah... hey Mark, what's the scoop on the tranny? Speedy, think I can talk to the owner... maybe drum up some sponsorship on brake pads...
and I've done my quick inventory. I think I can put the red guy on the track in better shape than the white guy for less than the cost of std tb/wp and steel b-joints (that I'm already on the hook for) and still have 2 solid daily beasts.

Im getting discouraged on the trannie. I dont want to go older version. there is the 2.64, that i might be interested in, but if I get it from europe, i would trade it for an S4 in Pitt, but that has to be pulled. (and the cost for the euro box is $2700 plus shipping is near $3k) i might just want to find a $5k car, drive it down to anderson, take the transmission and leave the car for that much. ) the other option is to pull it and take a look.if it only needs 5th gear, rebuild it. if its wasted, then , who knows what it will cost. might be worth a greg brown rebuild.

actually, the 2.64 gear box, might be idea. just work the engine a little higher rpms at the tracks i visit. could be the death of it around turn 2 at thunderhill. hmmmm
138mph in 4th vs 155mph , optimal for my purposes
107mph in 3rd vs 118mph also optimal, but just pushing the RPM a little higher on key straights.
the 2.2 is perfect for 330rwhp, the 2.64 looks perfect for 380 to 420rwhp and the 2.75 looks ideal beyond that.

Yeah, I just realized that. Weird that the GTS 2.73 R&P is only half as much as the GT 2.73 R&P- I thought the G28.57 parts were the mack daddy pieces to have.
Any word on whether the shift lever spring is still NLA? Looking at these gear prices makes me want to pull the GT's tranny and R&R that spring just as preventative maintenance.

their cheap, if you make them last 10 years of racing , or much more on the street IF you drive them right and take care of them!
Just ask Donna Giullio who runs the acura in ITB and buys a new one every year. Or all the ITE folks that have blown their out after only a season or two. vets, camaro, mustangs,BMW, etc etc.

I have heard rumors that a stronger 928 5 speed is in the works....I could tell you about it...but then I would have to kill you!!!!!
Good for 1,000hp might be the rumor.......
I do wonder what is the cause of failure...is it gear oil overheating, flexing of 5th gear due to torque, flexing of the case, or internal supports....I dunno...
