If I had an extra $20K laying around I'd buy Carl's (or Jim's) 928 in a heartbeat. HOWEVER, I don't. Sooooooo........I spend a couple hundred here and there at a time and accumilate (sp) parts untill I have (most) everything to tackle a specific area (drivetrain, body, interior, suspension, etc) to the reasonable level of quality I want for a DD. I'm confident that many of the regular posters and lurkers on the RL 928 site do the same.

At the end of the day, I've got $4k worth of parts sitting in my garage after i've already spent $7K installing parts on a vehicle thats worth 7 grand the way it looks and needs about that much again in body and paint work before I spend another $7K with Paul Champagne or Rob Budd. Ultimately, I'll probably do all of that and it still may not match what Carl and Jim have; and that's OK. I've owned it for 11 1/2 years so it's a zero sum issue for me and I'll always know what I have.

I find it interesting how you can become ensnared in a (sometimes not-so) subtle passion for an automobile that is, by most standards, well past its prime; yet still evokes substantial emotion from a very large community. I truly believe that if it were not for this RL site and its members, many, if not most of us would have moved on. I know I would have. This may be a swan song for Carl at this time, but once you've been bitten by a shark, they just don't let go.

Having said that, Have a Very Merry Christmas Carl, Jim and everyone else here on RL. May 2012 be a better year for all.
