would making it "shorter" so it does not stick out that far lower the chance of folding, without loosing performance?

There is an optimal length of extension, finding that distance is the trick. To me it looks about right using a the guesstimate method. Very reasonable price too, don't know how you can do it for that price.

yes, the first one that was done by Paul, is just a little lip. its not going anywhere. you get out a little further, and you do run the risk of it folding over. the more it folds, the less force it takes to fold it and then, WAM, its under the car.
I was doing tests with the fender aluminum splitter i had. with one support wire, it was starting to fold, so I used 2 more and its pretty bullet proof now. I would have no issues going 150mph with it now.

Ill have to re-post the youtube videos of what happens to a splitter as it gets wider.

To answer your question, you get more and more downforce as you go wider, from the actual pressure on the splitter, and redirecting the air that would normally go under the car, rolling down from the nose. at about the same distance out as the nose, comes a point of diminshing return.

I cant remember how wide mine was before It started to fold at high speed, but it really doesnt have anything to do with the part that attaches to the car, its what is floating out there in front of the attachement points.

Ed, how far out does the splitter go? looks like its 4-5" ?

Also, what is up with the Holbert car?? dont think I didnt see it in that first picture!! Did it get a front clip?
Hope you are doing well. Great work on this stuff as always!

Default New Splitter Supports Added to Address Concerns by the Splitter Pundits

I added some supports to the splitter, anchored to the front bumper. Should address everyones concerns about this folding under at high speeds which I doubt it would have. This will probably add 10 mph to my top speed

Here are some pictures

Hi Glen,

Car looks very well set up for some track fun! It will be interesting to see what you feel on the track with that new front splitter. Guessing some more suspension tweaking after you first track day.

By the way, did notice no mention of the "Super Clamp" in your 1985 928S sig line.

Happy New Year,

Man it looks sweet and I was thinking the same thing as everyone else at first look.
(will it deflect down and how much)

I really like how it extends so far under the car and no doubt the spitter supports that you have installed will work.
I was hopping that you would have mounted a rear view cam at the front, in the grill,
and recorded not only the deflection, from zero to top speed but also the vibration.

I like the look of it much better without the supports and would have verified that there was an issue before adding them.

Very nice look though and It gives me some incentive to pull mine out of the basement and bolt it back on.

Constantine, I missed putting the clamp in my sig. Will add it. I love the peace of mind that there will be no flex plate migration. I will have a lot of work on suspension set up next time on track, between splitter, sway bar adjustments etc. I have wider tires up front from the last time I tracked the car, I had a push then.

Ed, great product! Took some fiddling to get all the brackets in, but we didn't want to skimp and leave anything out! I am not sure I would STAND on my splitter (well, I don't actually stand ANYWHERE, EVER, but that is a whole different story) but it doe seem VERY, VERY secure!

I had mine wrapped in vinyl, when that eventually peels off (as I fear it will at some point) I will do the powder coating like Glen did!

Like Glen, I am trying to keep EURO84 understated and automotive wall flower-ish! NOT!

Here is a better shot just of the corner and you can REALLY see that fake Carbon Fiber

Really like the look of this...hell, if you are in a red car you are already making a lot of "noise" might as well complete the package deal I figure! LOL!

Thanks Glen, your install and avatar were my inspiration man! On the crazy loud red S cars it is just a good addition! I think if I had a red OB I'd want one of the REAL CF units out of the Canary Islands that is being made (or might be at some point)...that is a REALLY nice looking splitter but it will cost MANY TIMES what ours do and ours look pretty freakin' awesome paired with that front S spoiler!

Is this still available? Sorry if this a needless resurrection of an old thread, looked for other threads and found none.
If its still available, i simply must have one.

Cheers,

Adrian

Any update as to faster speeds than 125 mph? Just curious if the splitter has been tested to the upper limits and how it changes the feel for handling.
