We know the material spec and they were hard anodized.
Two sets will have been shipped by tomorrow but I will make sure I still have at least two here for tomorrow evening.

Judging by how many we sell at $400 each the price has not been an issue generally.

Well, with a part like that it's either spend the $$$ or have a non-running 928.

So all 32V engines are at risk? Thought maybe someone said Porsche made a change in the later years?

So Roger, do you expect to market a reasonably priced alternative anytime soon?

Aryan,
Not any time soon - every avenue I go down results in not possible or to expensive in either recurring or non recurring costs. Have not given up yet though.

OK this one is gona be wierd. The later model VW GTI engine has a cam gear that I swear "looks" exactly like the "new" 928 cam gear. I saw it in a place where I would be shot if I took pictures AND I didn't have a pair of calipers AND I didn't ever get to see it again AND its been bugging me ever since. Might be a wild goose chase, but I'm laid up with a leg cast for three weeks so I won't be the chaser......

I f Only......

I saw the same thing but it was in a magazine and I couldn't compare any of the measurements. But you're right, thedo LOOK similar. That doesn't mean they are similar but it does mean that theres a possibility that there is a replacement somewhere on the market already.

16v version

32V Version

I'm sorry that my post wasn't clear. I wrote the part about the magazine, went and found the magazine, looked up the page with the part, went to their website, and added it to my post. The pictures and link above are the cam geers I was talking about. They are VW and very similar in design to the 928 gears.

The cam gear is easy but the tooth design is special.
Two choices : -
Machine from solid
Use stock extruded billet

So far machine from solid is price prohibitive so far.
Stock extruded billet to the special tooth design does not exist - beleive you me I have looked everywhere.

I am still considering steel tooth ring with carbon fiber/alloy center.

Isn't it heartwarming that the same part that just CANNOT be made for less than 400 by Porsche suppliers, happens to be 139 for the VW http://www.autotech.com/product/cam-....html?fromcat=
