I use Castrol Edge Sport 10W60 (I see here is a big thread on it, will read later)

I used it first in my baja bug (1.8 golf motor modded to hell and back, 7500rpm monster) where the engine is open and exposed to the weather. Since using it the motor is running quieter and smoother.

From then on all my cars will get Castrol.

Ok, Mini update.

The "accelerator pump" coding is almost done, the USB coding is about 50% done on the ECU as well as in Windows.

But the tranny is pms'ing now and wasting my time again. I know I should most probably open a seperate post for my tranny woes, but I'm lazy.

So here goes:

Tranny works perfect, had the car up to 220kph "to test the ecu" on saturday night, still pulled stong but had traffic so couldnt do top speed run (The mapping is as good as it will be without dyno tune)

but sunday, yesterday, and this morning, after sitting in traffic for a while the gearbox will suddenly go over to neutral (the selector still firmly in D) and after slowing down to almost standstill it will select first and stay there. no matter how much I floor, drive normal, select neutral, back to drive stopping completely etc. I tried everything I could think of.

Is there anything that can cause this, anything that the gearbox recon people have missed? Any advice would be helpfull.

Thank you for the R and D on the DME
Diagnostic from the Mercedes 722.xxx trans manual:
WILL NOT UPSHIFT
Incorrect governor pressure. Defective governor assembly.
Check for stuck kickdown solenoid or for constant voltage to solenoid
caused by a defective fuel pump relay or sticking kickdown switch.
Valve body dirty or valves sticking. Repair or replace valve body.

Pull out your kickdown relay and take it for a drive to see what happens. If the problem persists then it isn't that circuit.

Thx for replies and advice, turns out it was the vacuum modulator.

Replaced and car drives good.

Will have time again to code over the weekend

Step 8: Programming Phase 5

Ok, took me quite a while to get to this point. There was a lot of small bugs that had to be fixed. Unfortunately the only time when the bug popped up was while driving. After about a month of proper ECU testing and driving I am confident that all the bugs have been sorted. The "Accelerator jet" coding is also done, and is working perfectly.

The USB driver side on the ECU was giving me hell and I was stuck for a few weeks till last night late. I was not able to get communication between the PC and the ECU. Turns out that there is a mistake in the datasheet and application notes of the PIC32 processors. I figured out when I saw that the starter kits from Microchip schematics looked "Wrong" compared to the datasheet and app notes. A small wire mod on my board and suddenly my USB code works. (A screenshot from Win7 Device Manager is attached)

Next step is to do the GUI and then it is all done.

Will give screenshots of the GUI as I make progress

Ok mini update time!!!!

Attached is screenshot of the windows interface software. Still in progress, but you will get the idea and layout of it all.

Geeky part: I have decided to use Qt for the interface software. A few reasons made me decide on Qt instead of Visual Studio 2010. At the moment at work I am constantly using Qt and like the functionality available to me. Second, I have a working demo program of Qt using the serial port and it works with my usb code that sits on the ECU. Third Qt is free, VisualStudio 2010 costs more than my car (not really, but it is still way too much). Lastly Qt has awesome graphics, gauges needles etc. that I can use.

For the gauges I have ripped them off the Qt embedded demo (http://developer.qt.nokia.com/wiki/EmbeddedWidgetDemos) and modified to show rpm, temp voltages etc.

Hopefully my next update will have a video of the gauges showing real time what is happening.

Volla, looks great! Glad to see that you're using a solid cross-platform GUI framework.

If you need/want help porting to Linux or Mac OSX, let me know.
