Went for the police report. Copper said unless it is $1000, they cant do anything because it was on private proporty. If I get quotes that show it will be more, then I'm to call him back to make the report..

the fender is creased and paint is damaged. That is the part that Fu*kin sucks, the Original paint, which I think is 9+ for a 20 year old, will probably not match.

why try -

just to add some info to the report thing ... it has to be a $1000 in parts/material and not including labour. The copper should have given you an incident number for a non-reportable PD/MVC ( which translate to a private property - property damage only - motor vehicle collision ). What this all means is the copper would write a small report of the occurence - not report to MTO, and if upon insurance quote it is found to be over the $1000 mark the insurance company can access this original report - MTO will then be notified and it carries on from there. If it is under the $1000 mark the insurance company will still have access to the occurrence report - which proves your not trying to defraud them and they carry on from there.

BG

PS - when he got in your face - use you cell to call the police then and have them attend, you would be surprised how an attitude can change.

Steve,

Have a Paintless Dent Repair Guy look at that before bringing it to a body shop. The scratches can probably be buffed out and PDR will avoid respray of the fender, part of the and door. Factory paint is always better than what most body shops can reproduce. (although there are some really good shops that can do it).

Good luck and focus on getting the car repaired rather than the *&^%&% who hit it. Assume you won't get paid for it and hope for the best.

ya ..Sunday I was heading home from my capoeira class when I was rear-ended in my Jeep by a 'drive away' guy. Tore my bumper off (and his) and cracked my gas tank (But I got his tag #).

Bad news, the damage is less than my deductable.. Good news, IT was the Jeep (parts are cheap, no body damage).

I guess he didnt want to get out and confront an angoleiro, but I wasn't going to get violent over a car accident. .. SHM..

At least you were not injured..

In my best Cliff Claven from CHEERS voice: "It's a well known fact, Normy, that most people are real a$$h0Ies nowadays."

Like BWMAC, I, too, would have probably clocked him just based on the principle that HE was being the *****. Find his house and throw a car battery through his picture window- tell him 'just pop it out' when he complains.

Welcome to New Jersey...

Don't give up. Yes, most body shops will want to paint the whole fender and blend into the door and hood. That's all they are trained to do these days. But there are places that can do spot repairs, even on metallics, that are as good as new. At least there used to be. Keep looking. With a crease, the chances of a paintless guy getting it out perfectly are small, even if he says he can. You want to pick those guys carefully. Still be worth a try to minimize the bondo.

Went for quotes: Bodyshop#1 =$850, Dealer #1= $4891.00.

Gonna talk to Pfaff tommorow. Their bodyshop is not at the dealership, it's up in Newmarket.

Cheebus! Even the body shop is high......never mind the horse$hit estimate the dealer gave you. Do what Bill said, look for someone that can fix the spot and only paint the area they worked on. If they spray the entire fender, it will never match AND give it a few years, the new paint/clear will age differently than the rest of the car.

You saw mine last month.....at some point, half my car was painted and now the clear is slowly pealing off. My DD ('00 Jetta) had the same thing done and its' doing exactly the same thing...... the clear has been slowly peeling off. It's a real pisser.

Does the dealer quote include hand fabrication of a new fender, priming/painting with an airbrush and blessing it with holy water before installation? That's the only way I could ever justify paying that much to fix it.

I agree that the dealer quote is just stupid, but $850 sounds about right to me to straighten the panel and paint it well.
