Default Got Mine!

My "gift" from Paul arrived today. Managed to make it to my door without being intercepted by the greedy Customs folks. Small enough to be delivered to my rural mailbox too, so I didn't have to go to town to pick it up, bonus.

It looks REALLY GREAT. I was expecting nice, but this is better than nice! This is some quality work here. I'm sure everyone who gets one will be more than pleased with their purchase.

Thanks Hans and Paul!

Hey Jake,

and you find that you still see the icons clearly enough in daytime?
The fiber optic panel does have a white reflector which helps.

That LED consumes so little current, and the panel develops no heat at all, so leaving it on all the time (with the ignition) is no problem at all.
But that is the beauty of that project, completely custom and everyone can have it set up the way they want.

Did the Maltese cross turn out the way you wanted?

Default Found the Culprit

Just after we thought we solved the problem on the 90+ units by swapping the pin, a new problem arose: whenever the "bonus" button above the wiper was pressed, the driver door window would roll down.

This is very curious behavior, as these pins are not in proximity to each other either on the switch panel or in-line module connectors. So, after looking through the schematics and board layouts again, I still couldnt find any explaination for this odd behavior. It was clear at this point that there was some kind of defect on the board.

So, with fresh eyes, and knowing where to look since we now know there is crosstalk between the "bonus" button and the driver down traces, I found the culprit. It is indeed a defect with the board which does not appear on my layout software. It appears as though it is just a tolerance issue between my drawings and the board house standard trace and plated hole sizes.

Attached is a picture showing the intersection of Pin2 (which is the trace for the bonus button) and a the trace for Pin7 (the drivers window down button).

I should have caught this problem while soldering the boards, but somehow I missed it.

There are several relatively simple procedures that can be done to fix this issue with the switch kit still in the car. I am happy to discuss those methods if a customer would like to do a field repair. If you have not yet installed your kit, I would like to trade you for a "new and improved" - or at least and electrically correct harness

Please contact me by PM or email, and I will get you one of the new harness out ASAP. I do ask that you please return your existing harness, as they are easily modified for use in a future customers kit.

Thanks again to the Rennlisters who have helped us break-in this product.

Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns regarding this development.

Thanks,
Hans

I started the install tonight and got the switches in place with no problem, but when I started reading through the wiring instructions I realized I don't have the plug n play harness pictured in the manual. I don't have any plugs that plug into the chasis side for the windows, sunroof, etc. Maybe I got the raw harness? I double checked the order and it says Plug n Play.

If Paul or Hans can confirm what I have, then I'll read through the raw instructions and see how much effort the hook up will be, and whether it's worth swaping it out.

Don,

You do have a plug&play harness. According to my notes, you chose not to purchase the replacement factory connectors. I can send you some if you would like, I have plenty here on hand. On the first batch, I did give everyone a "free" upgrade of using factory terminals, so you can slide those into the connectors attatched to your old switches. Just extract the pins from the factory switches and install the new wires as indicated in the guide. You can also just slide the terminals onto the male connectors in the factory chassis-side connectors. Feel free to shoot me a PM if you have any other questions.

Thanks
Hans

Ok, thanks, I forgot about that 2nd option. I'll take another look at it tomorrow.

Yeah, it really fits in nicely. Still debating one spacer or two.

Hello everyone,

I would ask that all our 90+ customers please follow this link:
90+ relay board isssue

This will explain in detail the situation with the relay board problems and how we are fixing it.
There are a couple of ways to rectify the situation and Hans clearly goes through the details with pictures in this document.

Again, sorry guys for the inconvenience

Paul

Thanks for the update Paul/Hans.

I've been in the middle of a flex plate replacement so have not had a chance to talk with Hans today.

Hans/Paul,

I have all the wiring connections made except the wiper. Need to confirm this since the instructions don't give wiring colors (unless I missed it). Left unconnected at this point are the main ground (3 thin black wires bundled), a connnector with two thin red wires, and a connector with one thin red wire. The Wiper chasis plug as only two connectors. The instructions say to connect the "wiper lead" to the vertical in the "T" of the wiper connector, but I'm not certain which of the two red connectors that would be. Also need to confirm that the main ground connects to the horizontal of the "T". Sorry if I missed something obvious but you know how we all hate to read directions :-)

Don,

You should be able to relatively easily identify the wiper connections. The double-red-wire should go in the horizontal, and the single red should go in the vertical. The ground connection is made on the climate solenoid bracket, or any other ground tab you would like.

Does that help? Any more questions, just ask.

Yes, that answers it, Thanks. I had the wiper lead identified, but couldn't find the detail you just gave. Also thought there was something about connecting the ground to the wiper wiring, so that threw me off as well. Should be easy from here.
