use as stock air box from the euro, use a 3.5" common maf (mustang will work) and then make a machined tube that necks down from 3.5" down to the 3" opening of the "U" which holds the "O" ring that seals it from false air. I made one, and then change to the S4 platform. already to go. Just need a maf that can be made to send a similar signal as the AFM does 4.5 to 8volts to the ECU and we can gain 10-15hp on scots car!

Euro air boxes are rare if not NLA, messing one up for a class project doesn't seem that good of an idea.

Metal air box I think will have too much heat transfer.

How about making a Baja plate as a project?

mark, that is a great idea, anyone know of any write up on anything like that? i was thinking of doing my own "tube" style air tube and cone filter. but replacing that old pile would just be a grand day indeed!

I know some folks have done this conversion on NA 944's using Ford MAFs. They also make a provision for the intake air temp sensor (inside the AFM) and adapt it to the MAF. I would be interested in more info on this too. Here is a common VW MAF that is 8V. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/VW-GO...#ht_4327wt_932

trying to find a euro TB and U is super hard, so making your own replacement AFM/MAF would rock. any one have info on the setups they are running TB wise that is something they created.

Maf swap and you need a way to either reprogram the brain like a sharktuned chip, or use a MAF adapter box.

So, what I did was use the euro air box, Mustang MAF, as part of the split second kit you listed below, and had a tube made that was the replacement for the AFM as far as spacing, and then the MAF attached to it, and also the euro 85 air box with rubber adapters. I designed it to make the entire air box system just be plug and play mechanically. problem was the split second system was expecting the 0-5 volt 944 porsche ECU (motronic) , and the 928 AFM was 4-8 volts. (ljettronic) big problem. If they have a solution for the AFM, on the 928, that is a no brainer. problem with the 928 84ish Ljet computer, there is no way to "flash" the chip or do shark tuning.

edit: checked out the split second site. sounds like they might have a kit for the 928. dont know, as most of the BMW or 944 porsche stuff is different voltages, even though they use a similar AFM. Dont forget, can just use the stock Ljet "U" so that just leaves you to find a euro throttle body. if you dont use the euro throttlebody, dont even do this modification. if the throttle body is 2.5", and the MAF is 3-3.5" , there will be little or no gains. the euro throttle body is 3.3" and the mustang MAF you use on these kits are 3.5".
