Default Installed Rotella Syn 5W40 today.

Replaced the Royal Purple with Rotella Syn 5W40. Drove the car about fifteen miles for a break in. So far, I like the way the car's responding to the lighter weight, but it seems ring sealing is not as good.

Maybe the oil will eventually seal up the rings like RP did. I scoured out the motor with Amsoil engine flush for twenty minutes.

Acceleration is not instant as it was with RP, but maybe the oil just needs some time to really get in there after the Amsoil flushing.

Paid around $5/qt at Autozone. Definitely a good price for a quality syn with loads of Zinc.

Please up date us in a few weeks. I think it's too thin, but that's just my opinion.

as far as feeling the differnce in performance between a 50weight vs a 40 weight??? OMG, thats probably a solid .000050609958848 hp saved there, unless the moon is aligned with mars, AND we are not getting bombarded, like we were yesterday, by huge amounts of gama rays effecting fuel atomization and ionization, from a solar flare.

Brad Penn is $5.50 a quart
Valvoline VR1 is $3.95 last time I checked the local auto parts store.

So gamma rays explain the HP vs TQ thread?

I have Rotella 15W-40 Syn in the GT right now. Fine when it's temperate, but it did NOT like sitting in traffic when it was 100oF. Part of that may be the oil cooler not being in the radiator and not cooling when there's not airflow. In any case, I'm going back to 20W-50 next time. Torco TR-1, $6.75 a quart. Oil cheap, engines expensive.

Probably has about as much effect as insulating the intake tubes

Singing, "What i know is what i know is what i know or what".

Hey, scot had some Vavoline racing oil, and it ran the oil pressure light when hot. redline, and amsoil didnt. Mobil 1 did too. But, if youre not racing, its probably just fine for the 40weight too. I cant believe the cheap stuff is still over 5 bucks a quart now. heck, i think dyno oil is over 3 now too!

I also know Anderson runs Kendal 2050 racing as well. (an old favorite of mine) and he hasnt had any issues either.

There is some good guidance on oil viscosity buried in the.... Owner's Manual that lives in the glovebox. 5W-40 is great for the barely sub-arctic areas in winter. For those that live south of the circle, something with 50 film strength and appropriate cold flow in the 15W to 20W range is much more appropriate, particularly if you plan to let the engine come up to operating temperature. Lots of opinions on what brand is better, virtually all experienced engine folks will tell you that 5W-anything is not really enough for a 928 engine at temp.

The Rotella T Syn will probably be fine through the winter and spring. But on a hot day watch your oil pressure. I experienced pretty significant thermal breakdown on a warm summer day. Scared me enough to change the oil that day. I believe Hacker also had the same experience.

+1. When it gets to over 90 - 95 deg F ambient, you better be watching your oil pressure gauge like a hawk...
