Default Calling on all 928 racers (Nor Cal)

SCCA is having a brand new class running in their group 3 . Normally I run in ITE in Group one, which is the dominant performance street group. (anything goes on DOTs) But, the American V8 Supercar Series is making a comeback. anything that came with a V8 is eligible, and the V8 can be from anything. ( 928 with a chevy is fine, but mazda with a V8 is not. )
Already, we have a lot of interest from sponsors, and would run under the umbrella of NASA possibly, but right now, SCCA seems to be the best fit, running in a pretty small class of production based cars, only a few of them faster than we are. the rest are slightly slower, but no packs of cheap miatas or hondas like the backmarkers in group 1, so it willl be better. PLUS, we get our own split start, so we have ONLY our own group running together.

Let me know if anyone is interested in participating. right now we have 15 cars, a ferrari 460 challenge, maseratti, a few mustangs , camaro, my 928 and hand full of others.

we are running at Thunderhill later this month, around the 25th of Sept.

Ah..well then, Team E-brakes will see you -there-. We shook down our SU build last event. We weeere gonna do nationals, but discovered to our chagrin, we cant carry enough fuel to last 1/2 the race on the new build.

Sucks to have those problems.

There are a few of you going to be there too. Darrell anderson and his monster mustang will be there and was going to nationals too, until he busted his gear box. put in the spare, but the gearing wouldnt cut it for Salt Lake, so he will be with us in the V8 supercar challenge. another note, guys like me that dont have the 500plus hp are allowed to run at 3000lbs while the guys that have 6.5:1 HP/weight, have to weigh 3200lbs. doesnt even it out, but it alows guys that dont have the power to at least be in the game. the tire will be a spec slick eventually, but now, its run what you brung. slick or DOT.

Its going to be a very cool class with only high end V8 cars. should be interesting and great to watch.

That's awesome!!! The V8 series is a great idea.

Are the class breakdowns within the series bases on power / weight like other NASA groups?

It would be fun to see one of those V8 powered RUF's show up

Mark..my bad, the 25th nasa is at Sears..and being a safety crew lead...I gotta be there instead.

But your name came up on a short list of "who might be interested in a seat in the 25..." for the TransAm.

Interested?

I'll get you in touch with the main dude here.

The list of "whats fast, and never gets in an incident drivers" gets shorter all the time.

ahh, too bad. yep, those weekends always conflict. I wouldnt probably be going to T-hill, as the budget this year is pretty shot, but the guys setting up the series needs the turn out and it seems like it should be fun.

As far as the 25hour race, sure absolutely let me know the details.

Thanks,

Mark

Its going to be different than GTS or the old V8 supercar series, and much less rules. they might just limit it to 2 classes . right now, kind of 2 classes. those at 6.5:1 or greater HP/weight, and those not at that level. tires are open, but will be a spec tire that is cheap. sponsors are getting lined up now for help as well. I think its a great idea. kind of a focused , WCGT type of racing, but without the rule issues. to give an idea of what is coming out, Darrell andersons car is a little faster than Mark andersons 928. Mark spins 1:31-2 race times at laguna and the mustang spins 1:29-31s, but on DOTs. other than him, there are a few NASA SU type cars coming out and the ferarri and Maseratti, so it will be a good looking field I bet. Heck, maybe no one will show. these are tough times!!
