Default Laguna Seca POC races this weekend. Hmm, two 928s running??? :)

I think I might be joining Mark Anderson at the POC races this weekend at Laguna Seca. I have to tackle how to make my car run 92db, as I havent run with these guys in 5 years. I do miss the Porsche comradery, and that ALL Of the cars in any run group are actually COOL!!
Ill have to run in the Red group, which will be a first, as before I was running in orange in R5 class with the part euro 84 5 liter. I think a 1:37ish time will be top 10, if im lucky and there isnt many cars. Most these days, are RSRs and cup cars from what ive seen in recent years. Mark has his car all dialed in and will defending his title as the Quiet king of the porsches at laguna. (92db is really strange to watch. it sounds like a bunch of vacuum cleaners running downt the track! )

Im racing on Saturday if all goes well for my late entry. otherwise, ill be there to watch the race later on saturday afternoon.

Mark

yes, with the POC new option to do HP to weight, my stroker puts it the weakest part of the GT2 class which is the same group as Mark A will be running. , and I think mark now is in GT1 I would imagine. GT2 is something like 6.5 to 8 HP/weight and Im at 7.9:1 and Mark A is about 5.5:1. I dont really care, as long as they let me race. It was pretty funny, the guy that runs the race groups HAD to ask me if I understoon 13/13 racing, "gentleman" racing, and what leaving racing room meant. I feel safer already!!!!
Just hope I can run.

That would be COOL, because it would me that I somehow found 200hp , lost 100lbs and found a set of new Pirrelli slicks in the garbage can. Id be running 1:31-2s consistantly! That would be cool!

Actually, I think there will be a few guys that I ran with 10 years ago that will have some better hardware than when I ran with them then, as I do too. Certainly will have the on board and rear cam running!!

I cant wait. Just got the word that Im A-OK to run on Saturday for the day and the race!

Good luck this weekend.

Great, glad you got in ! Have a great race but recognize that mufflers are going to deduct lots of power...torque will be good

with a HP curve like mine, i think it will be ok, plus, my mufflers are still pretty free flow (you can see through them) does that still kill power. certainly the extra 15 lbs of weight wont be too good. also, as I remember my last race at 92db, i riveted on an extra shorty muffler from kragen. I lost it one day on the hyway, because it was attached by an intake 3" fitting. (it melted ) anyway, I think I have to do that again. so, off to the kragen to get a ricer muffler to bolt on with some metal flex adapters.

I got in! Great time! Anderson put some hurt, for the 6th year in a ROW of beating everything that porsche club racers can throw at him. we are talking old ALMS GT2 cars , etc. Un real! maybe there is something about this 928 stuff. So funny, we always get so much rubbing from the porche folks, but look who is always on top, with one of the cheapest cars out there. Mine, was the only car in the Red group driven to and from the track. I didnt do anything but put gas in it and change the tires to the hoosiers for race and qualifying. by the way, ive done the very used hoosier test compared to the old toyos for several weekends in a row. I can honestly say, they are still in the .75 second range, with the extra size of the tire up front probably counting for about .25 seconds. Got a personal Best of 1:37.1 and a bunch of 137.2, 3, 5 7, 8 9s. The car was awesome, had some good battles with the cup cars and even a lone BMW from GMG motorsports (Sofro and Fabrice's car, with Fab driving running 1:38s). The race was kind of a disapointment, as it was really short, and even shorter due to a car breaking down and needing to be towed off. I got stuck in the wrong row on the start, with a few cars passing on the outside of the first turn 2. 2 laps later I got by a fighting BMW, and then chased after the CF 3.8 liter boxster and a couple of fast GT2 class cars. by the time I caught up and was on their bumpers, we got a full course caution after 9 laps ,and with 2 caution laps, the tossed the checker.
kind of expensive for 16 mins of racing. BUT, it was POC porsche racing. what an awesome group of cars and folks. Still worth it. I had a blast.

of course, Anderson won the race, battling with a very hopped up Cup car.

we all went out to monterey for a great dinner and I drove the hour home in the race car at midnight. long day!

video coming
