Track Day.... driveshaft slip out?
Recent dual clutch replacement with ring gear.
Went to the track at Buttonwillow, 3rd turn, sounded like it just popped out of gear. No noise, no nothing.
Towed in, jacked up rear, rotate rear tires, shaft doesn't move.
Possible that the shaft slipped forward?

It's possible you sheared the end of the shaft off (tranny end)...or the coupler up front slid back (not likely). Where are you looking to determine the shaft is not turning (front or rear)?

I think one of two things may have happened..either the torque tube shaft sheared off (good)...or the input shaft to the tranny broke (bad)...
You should be able to unbolt the transmission and slide it back a bit to see if that is the case..

Ok,
I'll look that over.
Any comments on upgrades while I'm in there?
Stock drivetrain now.
Any forum on HOW to slide the tranny back? Do's and dont's?

You should be able to see which part is turning and which is not by looking into the inspection hole at the driveshaft/transmission joint. I had the clamp bolt come out on my car and and the then it ruined the splines on the both the driveshaft and the trans. That was no fun.

A search of these forums will provide a few good threads with pictures on how to slide the tranny back a bit.
Before doing too much with your tranny, you can remove the front bellhousing cover and look at your clutch/drive shaft/coupler connections while turning the flywheel for any problems.
Another is to look through the inspection/access hole at the front of the transmission and see if you have everything intact at the drive shaft/transmission coupler.
There are a few upgrades available for your torque tube to include new bearing units and new stronger drive shafts.
Good luck with your findings.
Cheers,

Hope it's just the torque tube breaking, you guys are running out of transmissions too fast. Those of us that want to convert won't be able to when we can afford it.

Sean, been there, done that, lol! But I'd do it again- 928Int'l came to my rescue both times, and GB was the man who replaced the input on mine....
RPetty, since you had the clutch out, I would do an inspection of both ends- I would bet the coupler clamp is the culprit on one end or the other- just pray its the clutch end. Otherwise, you will be in for a new driveshaft (Get Constantine's) and input, which is trans rebuild....you should be able to see both joints and tell which is the bad one..

usually, its 5th gear on the transmission which is the main input shaft to the transmission. that will be bad, as you will need a new transmission. (fixing it is usually not worth it.) however, if so, scot has a 82 transmission that is coming out of his race car that only has a synchro problem, so a rebuild on that might be worth it, OR even just to swap out his 5th gear might be worth it if yours is in good shape.
I hope its up front near the clutch, but that is seriously hard to imagine. has any one broke the front coupler before? for some reason the torque tube is tougher than 5th gear input, and dont know why that is. horrible design! let us know what it is. you should be able to look through peep holes and see what is moving and what is not when you turn the engine with a wrench or starter motor.
as a note, moving the rear wheels doesnt move the torque tube shaft or really do anything useful, as you would just be spinning the gears in the differential. the torque tube is clamped to the engine, so it doesnt move until the engine is rotating. (unless you have the clutch pushed in)

Well...if Colin (Lizard) gets going on his old style tranny refurb/redesign project..the transmission availability might not be an issue.. But you probably already knew about it anyway..
