Looking everything over, seems no too bad.
how far back does the tranny have to go, I have a fuel cell inplace of the regular tank.
I have a car lift in the garage, just keep an eye on everything right?

you will be best served to drop the trans and TT as a unit.
first the rear suspension needs to be dropped this isnt hard .
Support the trans with a few tie down straps connected to the rear swaybar then drop the rear suspension on a floor jack
dont forget to disconnect the E brake cable first from the handle then slide it out of its mounting port.
Leave the rear calipers connected to the lines disconnect them from the hub carriers, tie them out of the way

Just be safe. A lift gets some heavy stuff high. Consider staying low, else you need a stable trans jack with an extension shaft.
Not sure of your clearances with the fuel cell, but you can also remove trans and TT as a unit as an alternative.
Most important will be re-installation. Don't want to stress the trans input shaft.
Bill Ball would be able to help you weigh equipment and methodology alternatives.

Ok, the emergency brake isn't an issue, I don't have one.
Anything people?
I'm open for all suggestions!

He's in California. Search his posts with advanced search.
Now that Mr Merlin is here you have another big gun on your side.
Be very careful on sourcing the trans, if that is what you will do. 928's International is the place I think, with access to Greg Brown.
Not an opportunistic private seller unless you plan to send to them for rebuild.

Thank you Landseer!
I do appreciate it, at times it can feel like your all alone out there.

I'm already in this thread.
For this job we drop the entire rear suspension as Stan (mrmerlin) said.
If your lift is a two-post, then it will come in handy. A 4-post won't help. So, with a 2-post we get the car up high and remove the exhaust and sheilding (you may have already done that to get at that rear shaft view hole). unfasten the TT front, start undoing some of the rear crossmember and suspension bolts, the tranny lines, then lower the car down to jackstand height and finish the job, lowering the crossmember, tranny and TT.
Get new tranny and TT on the crossmember and raise it back up.

If this is a track car with no e-brake cable as you indicate.
Then cut out the center of the rear cross member between the transmission mounts, and instead have a piece welded onto either side so that you can bolt a bar to replace the piece that was removed.
Then you can pull the transmission/TT without having to touch the rear suspension.
Also, do not throw away that transmission.
If you are not going to replace 5th gear I am interested in it for R&D

I would call this a "good" solution to your problem....since it is far cheaper to fix the TT vs a trans....and pretty much everything is a PITA to fix in a 928...so thats kinda neutral factor...
A two post lift would be much easier, but you can do it on jack stands and does allow the use of a jack to support the trans which does make things easier if you do not have a trans jack-lift that can support the trans....
