Cool thing about BP, they are located 8 blocks from my dads old shop, used to head over there several times a month to pick up supplies from them. Now you have to have a bunch of corporate approval stuff to carry it. I tried about 2 years ago to get an account just to order some, they sent me the contact information for the 'local' rep, who is 40 miles away.

Chevron Oronite division invented and patented Techron, which BG uses, and sometime around 2005 apparently a joint development agreement was made between them and significant advances were made to both products.
No guess on what BG used to sell, but all kinds of goop were sold back in the carb days, and things changed when fuel injection took over in the late 80's and new problems needed solving.
As far as I can tell Techron and BG 44k started about the same; Naphtha and Stoddard solvent, with some added cocktail of other agents, nothing especially magic or expensive, that's just the way they are marketed.

It would be great if someone could duplicate the results we got with the BG induction treament with Mr. Clean, WD-40 and Boraxo instead. Keep trying.

I don't know... Will they kick my a$$ behind the building because you sent me and then call you laughing because they don't carry BG......? Come on Scott, I'm on to you man. I can only take so many of your practical jokes. I'm already missing three teeth from the last one.

That would be Vinnie.... He has the day off. You are safe with Roger and Larry.

BG isn't so revealing in their MSDS only listing two generic items, nothing specific.
Regardless of how well it seems to work, my bet is that the BG marketing budget is at least twice the size of the R&D budget, and the marketing clearly works.

6% of Techron is listed as trade secret in the MSDS, but the other 94% is listed. If you read the Techron patent a fair amount of insight on the 6% is also possible.

The only marketing i have ever seen from BG is word of mouth and the tokens in the bottom of the cans, which also comes out of the reps pocket.
One TV add for Techron can not be cheap and they have done more than a few of them.

BG has spent 41 years building the business up and it is just recently they have done any national marketing. Not bad for a Kansas based small company.

Absolutely! I worked for them when I got out of high school while I was going to college, and my mom worked for them for 18 years. They have grown like mad since then, and the reason is that they make a great product and continue to try to make it better. I used to get all my stuff for free (I've tried a lot of their stuff ) and now that I have to pay for it, I still won't put anything else in my car. They have never done much in the way of marketing, mainly trade mags and racing sponsorships, but their R&D division and chemists are all top-notch.
