Thanks to Stan and Gary for "fostering" cars and doing pass-throughs into the hands of owners that want to fix, drive and enjoy them.

Same goes for the owners that pass extra parts to fellow hobbyists without trying to extract every last dollar. I've been a recipient and have started being a contributor as well.

I think it gives the hobby a major boost in spirit and value.

Well, the car didn't sell on Ebay. I did receive a few inquiries on it, but they were primarily from people looking for a parts car. So, the project continues... I'm dropping the front bumper off at the body shop this weekend to be painted.

I ran the car for about 1 1/2 hours last night. The longest I had run it previously was about 20 minutes.
Once the moisture burned off the exhaust, there was no smoke. Engine sounded good; although, it does have the typical lifter tapping. I also installed an aftermarket shift **** that I pulled from my '87 when I installed the MOMO ****. I have the original ****, but the plastic base is broken.

The next project is to pull the front wheels and check the brakes. At this price, I don't know that I'll install new pads and rotors up front. However, I may once the newly painted bumper is back on the car and the rest of the exterior bits are installed. At that point, I need to sit down and weigh further investment in the car vs. what I can reasonably sell it at.

Maybe someone here has a good used set of S4 rotors and pads that they can sell for cheap. If you are selling the car cheap, a good used set will do.

Imre,
That's a good idea. If it needs front brakes, I may follow your suggestion.

Thanks.

Well the front rotors measured at 28mm which is 2mm under the minimum wear spec. So, I'll be replacing rotors and pads.

Default Better pics?

Gary,

Do you have the better pictures to show/email? I would like some better visuals on this...for one thing, I am not sure of the exterior color. For that matter, is the interior a chocolate brown color or something else? I have not seen many of these cars in person, so I do not have memories of what it should look like.

Thanks!

Tell me more about the 944 trade possibility, my wife says she wants one now and then.

I might have rotors for front S4 brakes, but that isn't what you need/want, correct?

Redhorse,
I know, the pictures are pretty lousy. I was going to wait to get the painted bumper on before taking better pics. However, it's supposed to be a nice day here tomorrow, so I'll pull it out of the garage, wash it (for the first time since I bought it), and take some better pictures.

Stan,
I think the 944 trade is a stretch. I've asked the guy for more info on his car. If he gets back to me and it looks like a real possibility, I'll get back to you. The last thing I want on my hands right now is another Porsche project.
As for the rotors, if you have a set of S4 fronts laying around taking up space that still have some life in them, let me know how much you want for them. They should work fine on this car, unless there is some difference between S4 and 86.5 fronts that I'm not aware of.

Thanks!

Thanks, but I'm not trying to be altruistic. I'm not going to intentionally mislead anyone to squeeze the last dollar out of a buyer, but I am trying to make a profit on the car (even if it ends up being very small).

The money will be immediately reinvested in the 928 community though, as it will be heading directly to Paul for him to work his magic on the front seats from my '87.

I do hope that it ends up going to a good home though.

I think the S4 rotors are a bigger diameter than the S3.
Call Roger and see what he comes up with, good prices on new parts as well.

BTW how does the exhaust look ??
Is it all rusted out like the rest of the accessory parts under the car

Thanks for that info on the rotors. I guess I assumed that they were the same size as the S4 since the calipers are the same. I probably would have ordered a set without checking so thanks for the heads up (Stan also).

The exhaust looks pretty good. I think it's been replaced relatively recently. The bolts connecting the exhaust to the manifolds are new, and I haven't noticed any significant rust on the exhaust itself. I'll take some pics to add to the collection here.
