I know I ask this every year, but will anyone else from the 928 community be in attendance at this year's Monterey Historic Race at Laguna Seca? [and/or Pebble Beach, etc, etc].
This month's Classic Motorsports magazine mentions a Pelican-Parts sponsored Porsche drive and lunch sometime that week.

I had another local 928 event planned for the month, but that has been postponed, so this would be a good idea. I'll put something together. BTW, the event has been renamed the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion. Monterey Historics has been usurped.
You coming out here then?

I heard that they were renaming things... something about a dispute between the management organization and SCRAMP.... although this is first I've heard the official new name.
Keep us posted if you get the Norcal group together for that week/weekend. I'd love to meet up with everyone.

Heres a link to the local PCA's Porsche corral registration:
This for corral parking and lunch, NOT race passes, which you get separately...
The original promoter,Steve Earle, is no longer associated with the event, hence the name change- this year there are nearly twice as many entrants, including (I am told) 2 full grids of F1 cars..
It should provide a lot more on-track viewing and be a great place to look at racers from your past... Lot of action on both days.
Not to mention all the other stuff going on around here that week- it really an autophile's week for sensory overload.

I'll be there on Saturday.
My boss Dan Gurney is being recognized. A lot of his cars that he drove and manufactured will be there. The one car I can't wait to see is the Gurney/Weslake V12 F1 car that he won the Belgium grand prix in in 1967. His son Alex is going to drive the car two laps around the track.
Hope to see some of you there.

Nicole: Right. It's pushed to September, date TBA. I think we might substitute a drive down from San Jose on the morning of Saturday, the 14th, perhaps with a pizza dinner get together down there after the races.

I've been to numerous events at Laguna Seca, but nothing probably this large. What's it like getting to the track that morning? I'm planning on getting tickets in advance, but there may be people coming expecting to get tickets at the gate. I'm planning to have a group meeting in San Jose at 8am and arriveg at the track about 9:30.
We'll be stopping at the Embassy Suites to pick up will-call tickets at 9. We can rendevous with others there and/or pick a meeting place later at the track. For those who stay for the whole day of racing, we should grab some pizza afterwards.

Getting to the track isn't too bad. [I've seen worse]. Expect a bit of slow traffic on Hwy68 [Monterey Salinas Hwy] and 218 [Canyon Del Ray Blvd]. Canyon Del Ray is also the street where the Embassy Suites is located. Its actually quite nice to wind your way up through the hills in a stream of vintage autos.
Last year, traffic was diverted to both 218 and 68. [218 is the rear entrance. 68 is the front entrance].
I would highly recommend to anyone else going to buy their tickets in advance [and parking if at all possible].
Bill, let me know when you guys want to meet up. There is usually a beer garden tent at the south end of the pits [near the big tire bridge]. We'll be up in the flag room.
