Default Oil Pressure indications

looking to draw on everyone's experience. two weeks ago my oil pressure when cold would go to 5 bar and once warmed would settle at 4.5 to 4.8 at speed and more than say 2k rpms. it would never go below say 2.5 bar. now couple weeks later and 400 miles logged the pressure still goes to 5 bar and then settles at 4.0 to 4.6 bar and at idle will go down to 2 bar. does this sound "normal" ? what is your pressures.
note: two weeks ago the OAT was about 65 to 70 deg and lately its been in the
90's. also for info, using M 1 15-50.. thanks

Sounds about normal. I find the M1 15-50 suffers a bit in very warm conditions, but never to the point where I get concerned (yet). As long as you don't get a low pressure warning I think you're fine, and that doesn't occur until oil pressure falls below about ~1psi.

Sounds good to me. 2 bars at idle when really hot is fine, IMO. After being stuck in traffic today in 100o heat I'm going to switch from 15W40 to 20W50 for the next oil change, as I was down in the 1-1.5 range. Too low for my comfort.

3rd its fine......M1 will suffer quite a bit under HOT conditions...and the gauges are not exactly precision either......they seem to have quite a bit of variation given equally well running 928's..... for example on my old 88 S4 that ran EXCELLENT...it would never go over about 4.7bar....max.....clearly it had more pressure than that....but thats just where the gauge stopped....

just chalk it up to the oil and increased temps. it has good pressure and it goes up quickly with the revs. gonna keep close eye on it

My '91 GT (same gauge cluster as the GTS) oil pressure gauge also seems to top out at 4.5, but it clearly goes above that.

i was kinda kicking around the idea that maybe there is a buildup of "gunk" in the oil pressure sender. from the size of the sender i'm guessing that it is of a bellows type? anyone ever had one apart or tried cleaning

Try running a quart of ATF in your oil before your next oil change. Should do an excellent job of cleaning things up.

You can put the dash into diagnostic mode and from there should be able to read the actual oil pressure numbers from the sender.
