Default In-car quick release fire extinguisher bracket (Possible Group Buy)

Change of plans, see post #5

-------------------------original message--------------------
Hi everyone,
Does anyone have fire extinguisher mounting gear they would like to part with?

I'm looking to put together a setup for in front of the passenger seat, preferrably.

I'm going to do some RL search research on best seat mounting methods and product at lunch.
I'll be looking for "floating" bracket, meaning one affixed to the moving seat rails, and not the fixed base rails.

Much thanks in advance!

PS. I'll also post my findings and finished solution here.

I thought there was a commercial product that mounted to the seats we've got. Look for 911 stuff in the MY range.

I used to mount mine to the tie-down holes just below the rear seats. Not really handy to get to but met code for being into solid metal.

Jim-

Here's the install I did a couple of years back. Only comment after 4 years is that the wife does not like resting her legs on the extinguisher. So I drive alone.

PS- The pic of of your gloves being painted green for you made me LMAO - perfectly captures my wrenching experience when my 3-yo is around....

Rob,
Your link just about covers it, thanks!

But still folks, if you have some parts... let me know. Always looking to save a few bucks and clean out other's garages.

Ha! Actually, that's Chris (Landseer). Kid is mine, and she works pretty well around 928s.

Default Slight change of plans...

Does anyone have a Stable Energies bracket I could borrow and mockup a custom desgin in CAD?
I'd be happy with a scanned image... no need to even ship it to me.

Similar to Jthwan22's here...

Except I'll use a Safecraft quick release...

I read thru all your excellent solutions, Dave, Alan, Rob, and I've see the Safecraft quick release on David H's (Coldbeer) GTS.

I'm going to change this thread to another custom fire extinguisher mount.
Thanks everyone for your help!

Default Finished bracket design UPDATE

Sorry guys, I forgot to update this thread a while back.

The bracket and quick release turned out great!
I messed up on the mounting holes for the quick release so had to custom fab a adapter bracket. The design has since been revised.

If anyone would like this setup for their Porsche, let me know. This will surely work for the 85> power seats, and may work with the early power seats (need to verify).
If I get enough interest, I'll put together a purchase opportunity.

Jim - great outcome - looks good!

I like the matt black bottle & clean looking extinguisher head - I would recommend a hose on the end for extra flexibility though...

Cool guys... that's 4 interested people. If I get 10, I will organize a group buy.

Just so I know, would you guys want to source you own 2.5# extinguisher?

So I would supply just the bracket and quick release to accommodate any 3" diameter extinguisher...

Does this work with the 100% manual seats?

Does it attach to the rails?

Hacker,
IIRC, based on Dave Anderson's (Sharkskin) manual setup, no it won't... unfortunately.

It is mounted to the moving portion of the seat, so it moves with it.

I already have my own extinguisher and mounting but my mount is the BK stainless bar that mounts to the floor under the seat track. Does not move with the seat.
