RA1's are a great R comp that lasts a long time and allows you to drive to and from the track on them with ease

Once you wear those out...consider the BFG R1's....I run those on the Estate and they ROCK....WAY more grip than any other tire I have tried....RA1, R888, V710 all feel like ice skates compared to the R1's I'm also surprised at how well they are wearing too....I have about 20 heat cycles on them and they are well above 50%

Used the RA1s last weekend. Drove over 600 highway miles, 1 day with 928 and 2 days with 944 and they don't look worn.

I thought they were loose and tending towards greasy with the 928. Maybe needed to lower the cold pressures. The alignment was suspect, too. On the freshly-aligned 944 they stuck like glue.

Might be that the 928 is 3100 lbs with 284 RWHP and the 944 in 2900 lbs and 107 RWHP.

Anyways, not terrible. Reminded me of the old Yoko DOT Comp tires. Wear well but not sticky enough for the 928. The MPSCs were better.

were they shaved? if not, all bets are off. totally different tire. shaved toyos are turning equal times in my car to the hoosiers, and they are almost showing cords. maybe 1 or so seconds slower, max. depends on the track too, but Im still amazed how good the RA1s can be, especially on a hot track. in fact, its debatable if its not worth running them vs hoosiers on a real hot day. I was getting 175 degree temps on the tires. did you get any temps.
what pressures did you run?

Not shaved and I don't take temps. I'm a feel and chalk guy. I was running 29 cold all around.

Not shaved, all bets are off. totally different tire shaved. If you plan on using them for the track, why not shave them? ive got near 2000miles on mine, and a ton of track time on mine. still use them for ALL practices and most all qualifyings, commuting to the track and weekend driving, and they still are giving me great times and feel. if they were full tread, sure, they would last twice as long, but be garbage. . if they are new, take them off, shave them and get back to us. IF you want a spectacular "Feel".

29 cold is where I start when I run mine.
Sorry they didn't meet up to your expectations Glen, I've truly found them to be an exceptional tire.
The fact that you were able to drive them on two separate cars and have such a different driving experience is an interesting observation.
I'm running them on a gutted, no cage OB track car, which is probably more similar to your 944 (actually lighter than your '44) than your 928 which may explain why I'm having such good performance out tof them.
I've never driven on the MPSC's, but have heard nothing but good about them.

that pressure is close for most normal days, but it really depends on the track, your driving and the temp outside. (give or take a couple a degrees)
full tread tires are really most dependant on their tread design. a molded hoosier is like a shaved toyo as far as performance and tread depth. there are others that also do not need to be shaved to work well. put on a set of shaved toyos and you would be very happy.

I was impressed my last race weekend, that my very first lap of the weekend, was pretty quick, with not even a wiggle! second and 3rd laps were personal bests, and I had no practice or warm ups. of the trailer and on the track, 2 laps equaling a time that i did with hoosiers A series, (and toyos being smaller up front) in similar temps. toyos are mad good tires! And, these are almost corded too!
