Default 1993 928 GTS on Ebay?

What do you all think of this 1993 GTS on Ebay? Do you think it's a genuine GTS? Hard to tell from the rear end pic, but it might only have one exhaust tip. Salvage title too. Otherwise looks complete and all stock.

It can be saved, if you have some extra $$ sitting around. I believe it has been discussed in the recent past.

Poor car.

It looks like the rear bumper reflective strip between the taillights is missing so that could be a GTS rear bumper cover.

A salvaged title can mean a lot of things including flooding. I can't imagine how one could possibly evaluate the true value without seeing this one in person.

Is it the correct engine, does it run properly (or at all), are the electronics damaged, how long has the interior been exposed to the elements, how bad is the paint?

Reserved not met at $10K. This car will most likely never be worth typical GTS money due to the salvaged title. It might be a deal for someone who really wants to get into a GTS and not care about not being in the best shape. A low level restore could be reasonable; a high end restore would probably cost more than buying a decent used example.

Here I go psychoanalysing an ebay seller, but from the info provided, zilch, you won't have any luck trying to get an engine number from him. This is a story-car. That is, if you talk to him, I bet he has lots of stories.

love the busted out back window, missing fuel filler door, weather stripping hanging down and the layer of dirt in the car.

Yeah, this is the car that was vandalized in NYC and the owner took it back to South Dakota. Was on CL for $17K or something, several of us tried to find out the condition and only got vague answers from the guy.

junk title, not salvage. Good luck getting this legal again. I talked to the guy and it seems he doesn't know a lot about it.

Previous owner lived in Canada and had the car shipped down to FL in the winters or something. It was stolen and vandalized which is where the previous owner bought it from (a salvage shop down in Miami). I have more details form my conversations with him a couple months ago. I had considered picking it up, but went on vacation instead. Plus, I'm out of garage and driveway space.

From the sounds of it, the car was, at one point, well taken care of. I'm sure it's been sitting for 2 years like this. From my conversations he said it was stored in a barn in SD. I considered a road trip just to check it out. The issue is the title and the various parts. The right door was replaced, but it doesn't look like the did a good job on it. The hood has been scratched, along with the drivers front panel. I think it says something like "police suck" or something.

It's a risk. A big one. If you have a shop and parts it could be good. The title issue might cause some pain. I'd love to work on it, don't get me wrong, but that's a big risk.

The car was originally owned by an EXTREMELY wealthy guy from Toronto. He would transport the car via open carrier every year to South FL for the winter. He had a really large yacht and a condo in the Miami area. The car had paint work b/f it ended up in its current state b/c someone backed into it at the golf course..... I'm not sure the car was so well cared for by this individual much like first owners didn't care for many of our cars. In any case, its sad to see one in this condition. I hope somebody saves it......

If I had the cash, I'd probably jump on this. It's the right colors and I am an idiot. Call me a fool, but I would drool all over it's dirty, broken window body.... I think I have a problem....

Trust me !!! You cannot buy this car tooooooooooooooo cheap !! There will always be surprises !! Since the way it has been treated, sat outside and then in a Dakota barn for 2 years,I'm going to bet it even has a cracked block or some other MAJOR issue....wiring or who knows what !!!!..Then factor in the salvage title and the car becoms worth almost free !!!!

There are only 406 GTSs in N. America, too precious to sit by and watch one bite the dust ...

Default Junk Title can't be registered

I looked in to this awhile back. Track car only. I spoke to SD DMV and Cal DMV both would not register it. Too bad, GTS for S4 $$

Wow! Thanks everyone for all of the info and thoughts about this car! I'm sure glad for this forum! How else would I find these things out??!! Interesting history it has!

I agree........the car is a sad sight to see it like this. But from the way it appears, it looks like it's pretty complete and in decent condition. Body appears straight, interior is not torn up, only missing a few smaller pieces. This is what makes the car very appealing to me!

Yes, the drawbacks are the title and the real biggie is the unknown. We don't know if it even runs! It could be missing the trans for all we know! Flood damage is also a real scary one. Most sellers on Ebay have a pretty detailed description, but it doesn't seem to be the case with this one. I've been on Ebay for awhile now and have browsed MANY MANY cars, but I've never seen an auction that just says "Email for details" in the description. Between that, and with the experience you guys have had with the seller, it makes a person feel kinda leery about buying.

I know we don't know much about the car and it's hard to assess, but what do you think it might be worth? Does anyone live nearby in SD and would be curious to take a look at it?

This car NEEDS to be saved! It'd be real sad if it got cut up for parts!!

Bob in Socal........what was the problem with a CA registration?? Has DMV changed their rules? We used to be able to re-register a "junked" or a salvage certificate vehicle here in CA. No can do anymore??
