Maybe I'm missing something here, why would you want to switch to the new version?

Thanks for the info Stan. My pics before engine removal show the pan sump about 1/4" below the crossmember. Car is currently empty of all drivetrain, and I'm gathering info for reassembly over winter. When I disassembled the motor mounts, the rubber broke into several pieces, and the cost to replace is approx. $400. I'm thinking I'll use the newer style Volvo option and a newer crossmember for a cost savings, or am I way off base on my cost number? This mount seems to be performing well from the reports of other owners.

I would look into used one from 928 intl. Hopefully they will have their half off sale on used parts again this December.

Actually some of the early crossmembers have the holes already so could accept the newer MM.
May be that all you have to do is drill a couple of holes and buy the mounting brackets MM to block.

I'm fine with drilling a couple holes in my current crossmember, but the trick is to know where to put them? Anybody have a sketch or dimensions that could be used to make the mod? I have read a comment that the crossmembers are "subtley different" and this can cause the motor mount to hit the block. Is there a consensus about using the newer style mounts on the old crossmember? It will be December when I put the front suspension back in, so planning ahead.

I will be installing my new Volvo mounts this weekend. I will be using a late cross member. With the motor already out, it shouldn't be too hard . Thanks for the write-up MM.

Worth checking further as the XM fitted to 82 cars already had the extra hole in place for the later MM as well as the holes for the earlier MM.
The XM fitted to 82 cars is the same part number as the one fitted to an 80.
It would be pretty easy to locate the hole position by taking data from the later XM.
I am sure with the collective minds here we can double check if it can be done or not.

Thanks for the confirmation Roger, and the extra info about the 82 crossmember.

Since the replacement mounts are Volvo parts, can they be ordered elsewhere?
