Here is my first save...not sure it is a "GREAT" save, but it is my first. This car was from one of the old PorscheList guys from up in the San Fran area. My friend and also PorscheList guy (and the previous caretaker of RKD's BEAUTIFUL Iris Blue GTS) Darin and his wife drove it all the way from SF to TX in the heat of summer sans A/C! What troopers. The seats were SHOT, the dash was peeling up and the paint on the front and rear bumper covers as well as the side rub strips was TERRIBLE! Now that is ALL fixed and the car is pretty damn cool actually! A good friend has been "borrowing" it for 2.5 years now...not sure when this car will ever come home, but I am out of room so I told him to keep it in his garage for me!

This is the second save and will take several pics to document. The car was one of Mark's first big time race cars. The first shot is Mark on track with the car. The next few are how the car was (rolling chassis) when I got it, then progressing through the reborn racer on track and then at the '09 OCIC in Dallas!

Jim I look forward to your pics when all is said and done on your car!

Save #3 in process... EURO85 making a come back. Special thanks to Dr. Bob for his GREAT initial work to make the car road ready again! Now it is up to me to make it look good... Fix drivers seat bolster, repaint a few things...BAM! Ready to roll with the big dogs! You guys have seen pics of it already, so I'll save the next round for when it is done and ready to roll...I'll take some close ups of the problem areas so we can see how they come out after!

Is this not the thread for me... I'm probably not welcome here as I am the grim reaper of 928's. Maybe I should start a thread asking the opposite question...

Well this could be a long post for me... I am now at 10 928s hiding at my house and in my garage. They are all saves none were bought drivable and all came home on a hook or a trailer, After the first two came home I knew I was hooked and bought a car trailer to bring home more. At this point I have 6 on the road insured and driving.
So in order of purchase...

Red 79 euro 5 speed my first found through word of mouth locally in 99. needed a clutch slave rebuild and little else. Performed the water pump remachine and reshim in 2012 and was very happy with the results. Licenced and driving.

78 black 5 speed US model bought from the shop that did the safety on the red one. Bought sight unseen as a parts car with ownership issues it had an exploded bell housing and trashed interior from broken windows. Once home and looked at was to nice to cut up so was saved it is serial number 000131. Found word of mouth locally its licenced and driving

Next was a 79 euro automatic with bad gold paint. I had know about this car for many years but the price was always to much. After 7 years the owner relented and sold it to me for a great price. I picked it up in winter basically sight unseen when I got it home hidden inside the back, covered in blankets was another 3 thousand dollars worth of new Porsche parts for the car. Was found locally by word of mouth.

Next I bought a little 77 924 basically traded all my VW beettle stuff for it cute car. Found on kijiji, licenced and driving still having issues though.

Next was an 83 parts car auto with gold paint hit hard in the front, some parts already sold. Stripped and scrapped the shell. Was found in Tilsonburg Ontario by word of mouth. Scrapped shell

79 US 5 speed red was bought as a parts car by word of mouth, looked to be an insurance recovery, was pretty rough. Was hit on the DS A piller, front plastic was smashed PS fender was torn up bad and the floors were bent up really bad. It sat in the garage for a few years then was a field car for a couple years. I was going to cut it up for parts but the GF at the time said I should save it. So it became the "Smorgasporsche" we rebuilt the car with leftover parts from 3 other cars, basically a ratrod porsche that is driven but is available for emergency parts if needed. Was found by me in Toronto when my gold car puked the alternator, the guy had 4 its licenced and driving.

77/78 black US 5 spd serial #000038 Bought from Ebay in Muncey Indiana. I was expecting a big mess but the car ended up being 99% complete and only took me a few days to get running. I had to repaint the hatch and roof everything else was great and useable. Still tweeking the gremlins but its licenced and driving.

Next is an 83 auto US brown. The GF found this car at her local autowreckers in St Thomas they had no idea what the car was, she bought it for $850. It was from an estate sale it had been sitting for a long time the plate sticker was from 92. The interior is dried and cracked and it smells like mice after replacing the battery, fuel pump, two relays and repairing some mouse chewed wires it started right up. It still needs lots of work but this one will come back again for sure. More work needed not licenced yet but driveable.

78 auto US silver serial #000696 I found this one on Kijiji just outside Windsor Ontario it was driven year round for many years. The same family owned it since almost new they bought it right after a 3 year lease, it was bought new in Torornto. It came with all its records and was very well loved, they called her Gretchen and she still has the same name with me. I think the son could no longer afford to keep it on the road and only sold it to me because he knew I would fix it. She has some rust issues but no holes is licenced and driving has snow ties on it and is always ready to go for a drive.
Found on Kijiji.

79 5 spd US black. I found this one on Kijiji in Toronto had a blown motor. I bought it as a parts car but found the car was originally petrol blue with cork interior and came from California so I think she will be saved. She is very clean under all the crap. Replaced the engine already but is not licenced yet but is driveable.

79 auto US red. This car came to me as payment for some work done on another car it was a parts car before I received it and is pretty well picked over. No interior with big rust holes in the back, this car wont see the road again. This car came through word of mouth.

81 auto US black This car came from the same shop as the 79 "smorgasporsche" it was a customers car that was to far gone for him to fix. It was originally white, the interior is trashed, it is still sitting on my trailer its fate is yet to be determined most likely parts though.

I also have my friends 78 euro 5 speed hiding in my garage for paint and full restore paint will be 78 bahama blue.

That's it for now if you would like to see lots of pics you can add me on facebook just send me a note saying you are from rennlist

about 3 years ago I found my 1981 US auto about 20 minutes from Rodeo Drive on CL. It had most of it's parts, last tagged in 2001. I saw it and knew it was the one for the grand total of $1000.

I hadn't joined rennlist at the time and bought it knowing very little. It has no sunroof, auto climate control, and the bulletproof merc 3 speed.

Along with a mostly reupholstered interior (expensive parts anyway) it had all door trim screwed in with sheet rock screws. No radio and a s*** paint. It is a great first car

It was probably on the verge of being a parts car but I had to save it. I had it taken to my house, about 30 miles away on a flat bed.

Had it delivered, put in a new battery and some gas and it started right up.

I then trawled through craigslist and discovered some one who was parting out a car and bought tonnes of parts from him.

Started putting it together and by July (bought it in March) I had it street legal in California, emissions compliant.

I originally bought it as an early birthday gift to myself for my 16th birthday, since then it has given me over 6,000 mostly trouble free miles ( ran out of gas across the street from the gas station ).

It is a great car and I plan to keep it for a long time

Got a 1980 Euro on a Craigslist special for $1000. Doing a slow rebuild on her as time and kids use up my funds for it. Engine runs great but interior was a mess. Definately needs a paint job. The Tobacco Bronze is an interesting color but a few dings and rust spots has taken its toll. Re-doing the interior as I remove it to do a proper paint prep and spray. Been a great adventure. Love working on it. Haven't come up with a name for her yet as many posters have for theirs. But I'm sure one will come to mind during the rebuild.
You guys are great for all the knowledge and information.

After consulting with 2 experienced bodymen, the 79 was twisted up pretty good & to far gone to save. Went ahead and purchased it for the pristine interior, exterior trim, wiring harness, doors, etc. Picked up an 80 roller with a bad motor from just north of Dallas and made into one complete car. Completly stripped both cars, sent out the 80 for paint, then Dinsdale did his magic with reassembly and installing a new LS3 motor, his 6spd conversion along with a low mile C5/Z06 (manual)trans/diff/tq tube. Upgraded the brakes, suspension, etc to handle the increased power. Project link below. T
