Default F'd in ga!

I am at the park with my kids right now. Using phone to write so I am slow. We moved to ga,500 miles and I had to turn around and drive back to fl and back again to ga in one day, another 1000 miles. Car was running great until I parked it in the garage. Would not start this morning. When I put it in the garage last night, after sitting from the drive, it had cooled down, it made a really wierd sound, like a dying sound notechanical sounding more like a wooshing sound

any way I tried to jump have good battary lights work etc I can hear the fuel pump so I think that, ok I will
check the grounds

could it be the starter, any ideas that I can check it no real tools?

Anyone close to town lake in Woodstock that could help?

I just spent about 8k moving the family. I have my final interview for my teaching position so I am in a big pickle. Just might have to stay in the garage for a while. Have my wides jeep to take to work but she will
hate that!

I would check.->

Rear Ground strap
Engine Ground under car near motor Mount
that big connector near the Jump Post (14 pin i think..)

When you turn the key do you get dash lights?
when you try to start does it crank but not 'fire' ?

are you getting fuel? maybe vapor lock? try removing the gas cap then cranking.

Does it appear to have a significant draw on the battery when you attempt to crank? try turning the headlights on the crank and see if they dim significantly. if they dim then the starter is most likely trying to crank but can't. if they do not dim then for some reason the starter isn't trying. I see you have a stick you could try roll starting it, or at least rock it while in gear (5th) to confirme that the engine will turn. unplug and inspect the 14 pin connector at the pass front corner by the jump post.

Thanks for the call fabio! I really appreciate the help. I will go home and try some stuff.

The car does nothing when I turn the key. I can hear the electic fan and the fuel pump.

I will post again when I see if it is locked up or if she can turn over or if it is a electrical issue.

Thanks

Vacuum bladder hosed? Might explain the woosh. Would that cause starting trouble (massive vacuum leak)? I would think it would be more acceleration trouble than starting, just a thought.

You have my number if you need to call me about it.
Sounds like the starter is done, try tapping it with a hammer a couple of times.

Welcome to GA!

I'm on the other side of town if you need any parts to swap.
What are you going to teach? My wife used to teach at Etowah HS.

Ignition switch? Jiggle the key for a while after turning to START position. Happened to me last year...

Either ignition switch or starter... sounds like everything else is working as it should, but the car is not turning over... that is an electrical connection issue or a dead starter motor. If it is the ignition then taking the key out and putting it back in and turning it to start the car each time will probably eventually get it to work once. Those things rarely fail 100% right out of the shoot. Usually it is little problem little bigger problem routine problem, broken... Starter motor can be a one time and fail issue though and that could also easily be a ground/connection issue.

That's the way Bosch starters die. Long hot trips. Shut them off and they won't restart. Hit them with a hammer while having someone turn the key to the start position.

or

Call Greg Nettles.

Well I tried to roll start, almost worked. Jacked the car up and banged the starter, almost started but sounded really sick. Looks like I need a starter! Does anyone close have a used one. Will get some jack stands and see if I can't pull it out!

Mike. I am a tennis pro, looking to get the concesion at river green in canton.

I would think that battery cable or ground connections would be much more likely suspects.

I will help, but I can't get over for a couple of days - tied up with some family projects. I am in West Cobb County, on the other side of Acworth.

Why would you say that after he hit it with a hammer and it tried to start?
Classic example of a starter going bad.

Always search for the obscure, before the obvious.
