Default Mirror,Mirror, why won't you adjust properly? Motor or switch? help please.

Hello all, My passenger side mirror will move and adjust...some. It will move side to side fine, but when I move up and down I can't get it low enough to be of service. When it moves it has a stop/start herky-jerk thing going. Is there an adjustment to the range of motion (limit stops). If I were able to reorient the mid range of vertical adjustment to my best line of sight it would be great. Is there an adjustment, or is my switch or motor screwed? Thanks for the insight. By the way I talked to Roger about converting to GTS mirrors, a bit more than I thought. He thought I would need to sort out my current motor/switch before converting as I would be best served using many of my existing system. Any thoughts? thanks Brian.

If it's only the passenger mirror, then it's the mirror, not the switch. The mirror glass is moved by 2 little plastic arms moved by small electric motors and gears. It's amazing these things don't break more often than they do. If you can position the mirror so it's facing as far inward as possible you should be able to see how the glass is held onto the adjustment mechanism by a rotatable lock ring. You can get a small screwdriver on the edge of the ring and move it a bit counter clockwise to unlock and remove the glass. Then you will see the tiny arms I am talking about. If one of the arms is broken, as I suspect, you will need to replace the whole adjustment mechanism, which is refered to as the mirror transmission best acquired from a used mirror (or you could just replace the arm with one from the used transmission).

I think thare might be a slot in the underside of the mirror to inset a scewdriver then push the lock ring one way or the other to unlock the glass put a few towels on the ground and or tape the glass to the mirror so it wont fall and break
