Help! Is there any way to save my seat??
The PO was a nice guy, but he neglected the seats and left me with a huge tear in the leather on the driver's side!! The rest of the interior looks amazing so it is really too bad.
I am afraid a replacement won't match, and I don't know that I could afford it right now anyway. Any suggestions on a possible fix for the seat?
Paul
P.S. Sorry this is so big. I can't seem to find my resizing software.

I had a small tear (about 1/2 inch or less) in my bolster and repaired it - but it's never as nice as if you replace the whole piece of leather, or recover the whole seat.
Here is what I did:
I went to the fabric store and bought the most rigid mesh fabric I could find. I cut a roundpiece about the diameter of the tear.
Then I put glue on half of it, inserted it into the tear. Once that was dry, I put glue on the other half and shoved it under the other end of the tear, such that the opening was closed.
I don't remember what I used to hold it in place for drying - probably some sturdy tape.
After it was dried, I used fine sand paper to even things out a bit. Next was leatherique crack filler - which did not work very well - followed by leatherique dye.
The tear has not opened-up again, but the crack filler eventually worked its way lose. I keep touching it up every now and then; my seats are too nice and sofr otherwise to justify any work on them.
BTW: This tear happened at a thin spot that had been scuffed by the previous owners' pants. It's a great idea to avoid any jeans with rivets or scratchy applications.

if your craqfty you could take the seat out flip it over and examine the underside find a piece of the leather that you can trim off . get a wide stick or ruler and push the new piece of leather into the hole then get some brush on adhesive and brush it into the lower piece while you press the new piece downwards blow on it so it gets tacky then let it up so it sticks to the original outer part of the seat leather do the other side of the tear this should keep the old leather secured.
As Nicole said some sand paper on the rough edges should smooth things out

They also would coat the leather on the outside bolster and piping with a low-friction coating so that when you exited and entered the car your belt or jeans wouldn't wear down the seat any further. It is not on the parts of the seat where you are sitting regularly so you are not going to go sliding around in the seat.

AMEN to that!! I just wish the PO had felt the same way about their seats that we do!

Dr. Bob had a good .pdf write up of how he performed his repair on pg. 4. Matching the color of your seats might be the hard part.

We do this repair often. We have a good selection of factory leather we can provide but you can also remove the leather on the back of your own seat and replace it with matching vinyl. This way the replaced panel will be an exact match to your seat.

Try looking under the rear seats for scrap leather--thats where I found the biggest pieces. You might need something to get the glue off... mineral spirts worked for me. Good luck and post pics when you're done!
