When we went to SITM in '07 from Texas, I assigned everyone certain items, which spread the load out nicely. We got to use a bunch of them Sunday afternoon in a Sears lot somewhere in TN fixing Paul's rear suspension issues.
Now if whoever had seen his tires going bald at the motel in NC wouldve spoken up before we started home, we wouldve had a more pleasant Sunday drive! That still blows my mind...

Ed, thanks for the texts via Sean during the wedding. Missed ya there.
Jim M.,
The Home Depot is at the corner of Sycamore School Road and I35W. Last year, we met at the McDonalds in Benbrook and went down 377 to Granbury. Which way do we want to go this year? There are 22 traffic lights from Burleson to the Home Depot/Albertson's parking lot in Cleburne at the corner of 174 and 67.
Rhonda and I will be there as long as she can get off work on Friday.

Jim,
Curry is right. What about heading straight down I-35 and cut off just north of Austin and head due west. I think 2222 heads west and then we can take the fun road from Cedar Park out to Marble falls.
We are leaving early enough to miss traffic heading out of Ft Worth and we'll be north of Austin way before rush hour traffic.

Chuck,
2222 is not a fun road. Heavily patrolled and just kinda 4 lanes. I wouldnt recommend that route except for somebody coming down at night. (my perception of less opportunity to find stray deer on the roadway)

Ok.
I'm looking at a map right now. Either 190 (4 lane) from Temple to Lampasas, or 29 from Georgetown to Burnet. Either way is an easy jog over to 281.
I just think the Cleburne route over to 281 is way to jammed up.

We can always run down to Hillsboro and take Hwy22 [exit 579//77 south into town, then out the other end on 22 West] across to Hamilton. This avoids the mess in Cleburne and runs you around the southern end of Lake Whitney. We can pick up 281 in Hamilton. Hwy22 is not a straight shot from I35W to 281, but it might be a decent road....

Hwy 190 is a good road for traveling, 4 lanes most of the way and six lanes (three each way) from Ft Hood to Copperas Cove. The traffic is light during the day before the base migrates home, no traffic lights until you get to Copperas Cove (my home town) and then on to Lampasas. Slow down in Nolanville-a little burg between Temple and Harker Heights, they are a notorious speed trap. The stretch from Copperas Cove to Lampasas is still two lanes each way, and very lightly traveled. If you decide to take this route, make sure to keep going straight on HWY 190 until you reach the last red light in town, you have to take a right or left here (this is 281). Left to Cleburne/Marble Falls.

I don't care what route we take, as long as we can meet up together and start off together. I still vote for the Home Depot meeting place. There was a fast food place right there, don't remember what it was though. With picking up Hans at 9:40 I don't think I can make Brentwood by 10:30, hence my choice.
If you want to meet at the McDonalds, then please post directions.

I really don't care either way also. But I am pretty sure that spirited runs will be out going down I35. I would like to stay out of speed trap areas.
Maybe we should just decide on a meeting place on-line and decide our route off-line. I'm not real fond of giving the other team our plays in advance.

Jim,
There is a Subway in the Gas Station right next to Home Depot there as well as a McDonald's and Whataburger (I think). Home Depot still sounds like a good place for everyone to meet.
Mike, 190 sounds like it's pretty easy. Either one of those routes I think is better than heading through Cleburne like we've done in the past.
I'm voting for this:
Meet at Home Depot
Gas up
Food up
Head down 35
190 to Lampassas
south on 281 at Lampassas to marble falls for the last "easy" leg of the trip.
Kohler had a good suggestion. Gas up on the way into Marble Falls on Friday. Every year, we all decide to go gas up the morning of the Fun Run on Saturday and its a total cluster trying to get back to the hotel in time for the beginning of the run. By everybody, I mean Curry!

Got the part I needed for the CV joint today so I should have it all back together in a day or two. If a certain package arrives in time, I'll have some exhaust work to do as well.
So far from Houston we have 6 cars going.
me
Bill K.
Mike S.
Stretch
Bud & Amy (bringing 2 928s if Bud can get his supercharged S4 inspected in time <-quite a mean car if you haven't seen it!)
Still working on the caravan arrangements but it looks like at least a few will be going mid day Friday.

Do the 190 route and 281 out of Lampasas, I think that is the best idea. You are going to pick up more and more traffic the closer in to Austin you get on I-35.
2222 would be a bad plan as it would take you WAY south of your final destination and then run you right though Austin at a TERRIBLE TIME OF DAY (like any time of day pretty much) on a terrible road. You could take 1431 off of I-35 (and pass within .75 miles of my house) and the last 20-25 miles of your trip would be a BLAST (unless you run in to traffic or cops and both of those are strong possibilities...that said I drove nearly 400 miles Sunday and didn't see ONE cop till I was less than a MILE from home). You could take Hwy 29 out of Georgetown, but that is really boring (though light traffic and an easy drive).
