Brian, so sorry to see that happen. My wife just saw it and told me I need to get my old junker truck fixed up and drive that instead of the shark... It just wouldn't be the same.

Damn! I agree with the others about the front clip being beyond repair. Get the insurance money and start again. The main thing is you (or your loved one if you weren't in it) is/are ok.

As much as I hate to disagree, I'm looking at the front wheels, and they don't look badly kinked or anything. If the rails are bent much, I have a frame guy that can unkink it pretty quick. He's got a few hydro rams and winches that can move metal pretty well.

We should be able to find an unmashed front that we can steal from. Brian, if you can haul it up here next weekend we can have a better look at what it would take.

That's a real shame ... ouch! I'm sure once the initial anger/shock has settled you'll be getting another ... and from what I've seen here no better place to find lots of help and support to achieve that.

Yes doc the frame rails bend in front of the suspension mounting points and no you really cannot straighten frame rails...You can bend them back and get it to look O K but it NEVER really is right. Think of it as a cardboard tube out of a roll of paper towels it has integrity until you bend it and yes you can straighten it out but it no longer has the same strength. Back in the day we bought cars with less damage when they were worth 20 K or more and they too were totalled. But yes you can fix anything reguardless of how much it costs. Something like 50 % of all cars which are totalled get "rebuilt" by someone who can do it cheap and resold to make money with salvage titles . Story always is it was a minor hit , theft recovery etc etc truth is the cars are often cobbled together ...two cars cut and welded to make one.

I think you're exaggerating badly to make a point. The frame rails forward of the suspension hangers is the least important point of the frame. I know that it would never be molecularly accurate, but I'm sure it could be put back straight enough to be plenty safe.

I've taken the front off the a Mazda with similar damage and watched and helped the frame guy get it back in true. It took about 3 hours, and some pounding, pulling and pushing but he got it as straight as when it left the factory. We measured it with a laser and the bumper points were dead on.

Remember, I have a salvage car, and yes, mine was one of those that got a small hit in the rear quarter that took only a few hours to clean up. New bumper cover, and light and it went to the paint booth.

Again, Not saying it will be perfect, but it'll be true. Now, we need all the sheet metal and trim bits. Cmon! Help out, I'm trying to save one.

You are entitled to your opinion Doc , the front frame rails are triple layers so you might get the outer layers resonably straight but you can not see the inner. Like i said you can make one LOOK OK measure OK but rarely is it really OK. And yes I once replaced a Rabbit rear 1/4 panel including the door post by riveting it in place...and yes it LOOKED great after I painted it.... Step son's car he had no money ,I had no welder.
