I'd say the 928, both to reassure the seller that his baby is going to a good home, and to let him know that you are not inexperienced with these cars.

When they got real expensive......$15-20k for a nice one ! besides it is now 28 years old most think 25 years is "vintage" qualifies for classic plates

If you drive up in a car that relates to what you are looking at AND is in good condition, it can assure the seller that

a. you appreciate that type of car
b. you know how to treat a such car on a test drive
c. be less inclined to BS about issues
d. respect your offer more, because they know you know what these cars are worth

Now, if you were looking at a Beetle, it might not matter much...
