You can still get the original bellypan and it comes with the vents attached. This car is/was so pristine, it deserves it. Also, I think it's well worth having. The bellypan sacrificed itself and may have absorbed or deflected some of the energy from that strike that could have done further damage. I ran over a large pipe lying in the road and it is clear the bellypan prevented it from going up into the front of the motor, so I believe in bellypans and I replaced mine. The rear bellypan probably can be reshaped OK.
The steering rack boot is cut up. Hope the rack is OK. The lower A-arm mounts were struck as well. Hopefully they are just cosmetic marks.
As Auz said, a bolt is missing from the alternator cassette. Hopefully it was missing beforehand, because if it got snapped off then the alternator cassette was moved enough to damage the other bolts or the mounting points.
It looks like the alternator nut somehow just backed off and let the pulley go. Odd. If the shaft end was snapped off you'll need a new or rebuilt alternator, but it looks OK.
I can probably come up this weekend and help you assess what you need. Let me know.
Steve, stop your crying. You need to just let go of your baby.

About 18 months ago I bottomed out my '85. I thought all was well until a few weeks later when I was driving home one night. The lights went dim so I thought the alternator just failed. A while later the engine started getting hot. I got it home just before it really started to overheat.
Opened the hood, looked in, and saw the alternator with the belt still on it, resting on the lower coolant hose. The pulley of the alternator put a hole in the coolant hose. That explained my low power and overheat problem.
What happened? When I bottomed out the alternator hit the ground and it cracked the mounting bolts, which eventually broke all the way. I lucked out big time. I got even luckier because the top bolt worked itself loose before breaking so extracting the rest was effortless. The bottom bolt required some drilling and heli-coil, but it's fixed now. Check the condition of those bolts when you remove the alternator.

Bill, that's an amazing and generous offer. Thank you. I have a kids B-day party (my kid) at 530pm today and tomorrow is wide open.
Thank you,
Rob
PS, and yes it will be restored to pre-offroad condition, including belly pan... As it deserves.

Rob,
When I rebuilt the alternator on my 90' S4, I noticed the shaft pully key was missing from the factory build. The key is listed in the PET parts database, so I purchased a new key from Porsche.
Apparently, your alternator did not have the key installed, otherwise the pully would not have spun off like it did.

I'm in Roseville too - I'm not near as knowledgeable as Bill, but I'd be happy to run over and take a look with you and assess the damage. I did something similar in my '88 last year - didn't get the undercarriage messed up like yours, but did bend the steering knuckle on the passenger side, so don't forget about any possible suspension damage too.

Just saw your post about availability - Bill, I'm wide open tomorrow too - I can be there at 11:30 too - working this weekend on putting my suspension back together so I can go get it aligned . Rob, if you don't mind me joining the party PM me your address.

Interesting thing in this picture - rear wheel isn't siting firmly on the ground - was car jacked up back there too?

Rob may have hit a curb but he narrowly dodged a big bullet.
Just got back from surveying the damage with Bill Grabner and Rob. The main area of interest was the alternator/power steering cassette and its mounts on the the block. The cassette was still attached but a few of the bolts were "loose" and one was missing (see the post by Kurt/Auzivision where he notes the missing bolt). The missing bolt is the smallest of the cassette bolts. Rob found a bolt with some thread shavings on it lying in the driveway and it turned out to be that bolt. Anyway, the cassette was not completely snug. It moved a little when I pulled on it. As I loosened the remaining bolts, it pivoted in and out as I turned the bolt. Very strange. Once we got the bolts out the reason was clear - they were BENT! So, the question remained, what about the mounts? I found it a bit hard to believe that the 8.8 steel bolts bent and the aluminum mounts cast as part of the block were still intact, but that's what we found. BULLET DODGED! I expected to see pieces of the mount come out with the bolts. There were no threads from the block on these larger bolts. The bolts had stretched ouside the threaded area, so there was no damage at all to the mounts except that tiny one getting partially stripped. The alternator pivot bolt was straight and that mount point was fine too. So, all he needs are some new bolts, with that tiny one that stripped out some threads a bit longer than stock. The rack seems fine under the torn boot and the lower A-arm mounts just got scraped up a bit. A few belts, some new bellypans, new rack boot and things should be fine. Lucky Rob!
First pic shows the cassette pulled forward so you can see the intact mount!
And Steve, your old car was otherwise perfect! You can put a way the hanky.
