I wouldn't mind swapping either later....much later, like when I rebuild the engine later and have a house later.

So back to the original ? Does anyone know of anyone who could make a new ring-pinon for an automatic 928?
Yes - Mike Simard. With enough money I think that guy could make any part better.

No, its on topic. you see, you want what I have right now, with my 1st, but do I ever use it. well, I used to with 320rwhp, to get a jump out of turn 11 laguna, but it was only once in a blue moon that I did it. (its on video for 928 sounds). anyway, the point is. 1st 55mph, 2nd 80mph and 3rd 118mph 4th 155mph. deep in to 4th is really around 140mph like when we had a tail wind at thundehill. its very near the 6000rpm mark. anyway, point is, you have this now, sans the 3rd gear I have, BECAUSE you have an automatic. going to a 3.09, if you did the calculations correctly, you will never use the 2nd gear to 65mph, its just too low a gear for most turns you see, plus you have a one legger and skinny tires. so, in the end, you will have a 3rd, that is like your old 2nd, but taller (i.e. 100mph vs the old 85mph). that would not be good, because you spend the MOST time in that gear. second, you would get a new 4th at 142mph, where you currently at 139mph. (again, taller, giving a 2% loss to your performance in a gear you spend the most time in) by the way, isnt your auto a 2.2 rear end? if so, isnt the rear end 1:1? if so, how did you get 142mph for the new 4th? 220mph x .72 is 158mph. I dont know the rest of the gears, but keep in mind, you have a pretty nice range of the two gears for the tracks you will see.I never felt driving the car, i needed a lower 2nd gear out of even that chicane we had at the Sear's Lemons race

so, you can see, what you are trying to do is really get the jump out of the corner gear that you wont really use, an lose performance in a critical gear you have now, in the range of 70 to 90mph range . lots of trade offs arguably not worth the effort by a LONG shot. so, focus on a euro intake, heads, LSD, bigger tires and wheels, cutting out the weight and you will be MUCH better off. remove those front and rear bumpers. thats near 40lbs a piece right there. cut the battery box out! put in a 14lb odessey battery and mount it behind the passenger seat area. cut out a few of those cage bars in the rear of the estate. get ride of the estate look and just do a facade rear hatch and follow the normal lines. you will have better aero, and drop a bunch of weight.

I really don't think the estate rear end hurts aero..... think about it...any wing I mount even 6 inches off the rood will be in CLEAN air...not turbulent air going down the hatch..so it will be VERY effective....

Right now the car needs more front downforce....as it tends to understeer in high speed corners...but I think a vent in the hood will help that and lower temps too!

there is very clean air off the 928 roof line, because it is gradual. part of its design advantage. the blunt back end of the estate is the worst possible aero. you get major separation of the air off the roof. its bad enough on the 928, and better with the S4 with wing, but trust me, the estate is horrible for flow. wings off the 928 rear end have very clean air to work with. Ive proved this with tufts and video. no surprise there are very few cars with a roof line as gradual as the 928.
you need a splitter and the vent for the estate to rid yourself of the high speed push, but mainly, you just need bigger tires.
