Default leeaky fuel line

on my 79 OB traced it to a rather large drip in the pipe near the rear wheel going from the tank to the front of the car

so I can cut and fit a coupler as a short term fix

however as its neither a hard pipe nor the rubber used today, seems to be some kind of fabric covered hose, my question is

is this just the start of my problems and should I expect to need to replace the whole thing

is this to be expected at this age?

Just bought a 1979 OB myself. I just ask Roger at 928Rus about a kit and he told me they have them for ~$95. Sounds like very cheap insurance and will be one of my first projects!

Here's a very detailed tutorial that should work fine for you: http://members.rennlist.com/sharkski...-FuelLines.htm

This is for a 78. Yours will be very close. Save the home page link, as there is lots of other good stuff there.

The accumulator resides in the front of the rear wheel arch and I've seen those leak on the early cars. Are you sure it the line and not the accumulator?

got up this morning and its lost a litre in the last 12 hours

I now have it temporarily clamped with brake clamps, so it doesn't continue to **** on my drive until I can get to it

it stopped the minute the clamp on the tank side of the hose went on, so definately looks like the hose

I've emailed roger ref the kits, looks like I'll do the accumulator whilst I'm there

anyone have a pic of it? or know the cost? I'm away from my shop manuals at present

cheers

If your knuckles aren't bleeding, you did it wrong

I'll probably resemble the human torch based on how much fluid I usually manage to cover myself in when doing oil or coolant :-)

+1. that is why I try to wear mechanic gloves, but sometimes can't get your hands where they need to go with them on. and then get the glove caught down inside somewhere and have to 'cyote' yourself free.

either way... you're gonna bleed some. so I always have a few bandaids in my tool box.
